The Morning After Ministry Show

It was an eventful Father’s Day Sunday for both Lakeview and Safety Harbor. Tim is in prime pre-wedding season. Andrew got to baptize his firstborn yesterday. Safety Harbor had their first elders meeting for a new class of elders, and Lakeview is ramping up their candidate search.

We're back live and in person for the first time in what feels like months, and we have a super fun announcement. Tim went out of his to attack Andrew during his sermon yesterday. Andrew is balancing his role as pastor and landlord. We each got back to church after extended family time, and summer schedules are in full swing.

Twas the day after Mother’s Day, And we were both tired, but good news is, neither one of us got fired.  Moms received candy and flowers, and after his sermon, Timmy needed to sleep for hours.  A new series kicked off at Safety Harbor,  from the look of this camera angle, it’s time for a trip to the barber.  More ministry was done, but none of it rhymed, so we’ll talk about it if we have time.

This week were are joined by our friend Allan Pereira and a VERY special friend of his. We are talking about how the church can be involved in fighting for the fatherless. Andrew got a fancy new Bible, Tim is getting a new drum kit…just don’t tell his elders why he likes it so much.

Andrew’s church hosted a denominational conference, Tim’s church kicked off a new series for the first time in forever. We’re talking through preaching strategies, big events, and handing things off to volunteers.

This morning we are talking about what happens when the things that could go wrong do just that. Tim had a major tech hiccup right before church, Andrew had a contractor forget that church happens on Sunday mornings. Easter is the best day of the year, but it’s also exhausting. Let’s hang out!

Half of Tim’s flag football team quit over his abrasive coaching style. Andrew failed his sons this morning. We’re preparing for the chaos that is Holy Week. Andrew had a stinker of a sermon that turned out ok. Tim’s church is the Spring Break capital of the world.

We’re getting ready for the Super Bowl, and by that, I mean Easter Services. We have a few different philosophies and services as a result. We’re talking through multimedia while preaching, and collaborating with other churches. Tim’s church had a vision night, and Andrew’s had their annual meeting.

We’re back from some time frolicking with our families. Tim had a guest preacher, Andrew had a guest missionary...unannounced. Lakeview launched their young adults ministry. Safety Harbor completed their renovation project.

Some weeks feel like they last forever, and other weeks like they are just a couple of days. We are talking through how to get all of your work done when you only have a little bit of time to do it. Both of our churches just had new members’ classes. We hung out with the Practical(ly) Pastoring crew last week, and we’re giving best practices for using someone else’s sermons.

This is a weird episode because it is also the first episode (and possibly only episode) of a podcast Andrew is launching for a research project. We are leaning heavily into the themes we discuss all the time: pastoral rest and community. We’ll get into our weeks, and doing ministry on Super Sunday.

Lakeview has stepped up security, and Timmy now has a body man. Safety Harbor’s everlasting renovation project came to a finish. We are talking through life stages and what our kids perceive about them. Did you know that there are psychedelic churches now?

We are both continuing to fill multiple roles at our churches, and it is exhausting. We are talking funerals and how to best minister to families in end-of-life settings. Both Lakeview and Safety Harbor have been experiencing some growth from church transfers. We’re wondering how funny is too funny on a Sunday morning, and do you have to give credit for stolen jokes?

We both had chaotic weeks, but for very different reasons. Tim’s role has expanded at Lakeview, while Andrew has a construction project wrapping up at Safety Harbor. We both have done memorial services in the past few days, and Tim is still in mourning over his Jags.

It’s crazy how exhausting several weeks “off” can be. Tim is going to be in a great mood this week this week, but will probably be exhausted next Monday too. We’re talking pastoral succession, people checking out new churches in the new year, and the memories we’re making with our kids.

Well, Hurricane Ian came to our neighborhood and killed power and caused havoc; for some of us at least. Lake-view had a missions weekend, and Safety Harbor had lin-gering storm issues that killed the internet.
