Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do. -- Voltaire   When we walk by people or problems that need help, we are guilty of the consequences that follow.  Wether it's safety issues, people with bad attitudes, or toxic subordinates, the problems we see are OUR problems to solve!    

Unlocking the potential of people means meeting their leadership needs!  In this series, we break down the individual barriers to influence and try to get in the mind of those that follow us!

If you are waiting on your ship to come in, I have bad news for you... it likely isn't.  Rather than waiting for our big break, we need to follow in the footsteps of GiANTs and identify our goals, and start dismantling the Barriers, Hurdles and Gaps that are standing in our way!  

This week we continue our "What are they asking? series, as we try and remove the individual barriers to influence our followers carry with them!

All too often we let past failure or imposter syndrome hold us back from reaching our potential.  It's time to bust through our "Walls of Awful" and be the version of you that you were meant to be!

Attempting to build influence using our default language and communication code is a recipe for disaster.  We need to understand the filters and barriers that other people have to influence and work on actively answering their questions before they ask or even think about them!

How much emphasis do I place on the competitive environment and our capacity constraints?   Honestly, not much.   That being said, even if it was 90% of the problem, it is completely out of our control.   Let's focus on what we DO control rather than what we can't.

I have never been in a room where people had all the positional power they needed to enact a healthy-high performing culture.  Operating at the highest level requires both a mindset and a skillset that must be developed and refined over years of practice, which only comes through leading in REAL life!!!!

It's time to update where we are headed and what we are trying to accomplish! Join me as I try and get out what's in my head on this one!

Doing the right thing can be costly, but sacrificing our values to keep the peace or avoid consequences can be downright deadly!   It's time to shine a light on injustice and bring problems to light.  Only when we model what's right can we create a culture that celebrates being called up to the highest level!  

Don't let limiting beliefs trap you into thinking you cannot do anything about the culture you exist in!   If you are responsible for people, then you have a responsibility to grow through issues you have with your health, skill set, and mindset!   It's time to stop looking outside and start focusing on what you control!

Our personality, default communication code, AND Inner Dynamics often steer conflicts into familiar patterns and outcomes! There is a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path.  Being leadership smart, or having all of the knowledge, and no idea what to do is WAY too common in this world.  If we want IMPACT we have to build our leadership story through our example and always judge ourselves against who we were, never who we want to be!

Perfection is something to be strived for but never attained.  Holding ourselves or those we lead to the standard of perfection is a recipe for failure!   It is far better to judge ourselves by comparing yesterday's failures to today's wins.
