The Measure of an Episode
The Measure of an Episode: Star Trek Edition
Jonathan and Paul embark on a thirteen-and-a-half-year mission, combing through all 703 episodes of Star Trek to discover what makes Star Trek “Star Trek”, and not just good TV. Or great TV. Or really, really bad TV. They subject their well-honed criteria to one randomly selected episode at a time.

Episodes
17: Voyager S6E21 “Live Fast and Prosper” 15.06.2020 36:27
Neither Vin Diesel nor the Rock make an appearance in this episode (though one of them does later). The discussion runs the gamut from Janeway’s protracted mic droppings to alien method acting.
16: The Next Generation S6E09 “The Quality of Life” 08.06.2020 42:57
Finally, we’re getting into some of the heavier sci-fi episodes of NextGen, and it’s a damned good one. We’ve christened it the unofficial sequel to The Measure of a Man, the eponymous episode of the podcast. Also, Nick Offerman.
15: The Original Series S2E09 “Metamorphosis” 01.06.2020 44:05
Once again, the crew of the Enterprise is stranded on a rocky planet and we’re forced to make sense of magical beings and late 60s decor. Featuring a couple of guest stars, including Cappy and Zefram Cochrane.
14: Enterprise S4E20-21 “Demons” and “Terra Prime” 25.05.2020 45:02
This turned out to be a secret two-parter because whoever wrote the titles these things had a bad day. Robocop is the villain in this one, complete with heavy-handed eugenics philosophy and Michael Bay-style news reporting.
13: The Next Generation S2E19 “Manhunt” 18.05.2020 45:02
Definitely not the type of manhunt we were expecting. The sentient random episode generator strikes again with a Lwaxana Troi extravaganza. Also, a pointless holodeck plot line.
12: The Original Series S3E22 “The Savage Curtain” 11.05.2020 40:12
Hunker down... it's Abraham Lincoln in space! We discuss the crap out of this controversial episode and arrive at some interesting conclusions.
11: Voyager S2E20 “Investigations” 04.05.2020 41:12
Neelix stars in a Hardy Boys plot while Paris suffers the whims of an inconsistent expression of a Star Trek universe. Voyager just keeps losing people left and right.
10: Deep Space 9 S3E10 “Fascination” 27.04.2020 37:52
Who doesn’t love the annual, 26-hour Bajoral Gratitude Festival? We discuss the DS9 version of the Star Trek rite of passage episode where everyone wants to eff each other.
9: The Original Series S3E12 “The Empath” 20.04.2020 45:41
Torture and interpretive dance are the heart of our discussion about this intriguing TOS episode.
8: Deep Space 9 S3E24 “Shakaar” 13.04.2020 42:29
Welcome to darts talk, where it’s nothing but darts, darts, and more darts. And maybe a sexy Bajoran here and there.
7: Enterprise S2E14 “Stigma” 30.03.2020 40:19
We spend a lot of the episode teaching Vulcans how to act and how to act like Vulcans.
6: The Original Series S3E7 “Day of the Dove” 30.03.2020 31:03
A healthy debate concerning this episode being science fiction or just plain fantasy. Lots of Klingon incongruity talk too.
5: Deep Space 9 S2E18 “Profit and Loss” 30.03.2020 29:27
We discover that DS9 used to be a concentration camp submarine before the Federation took control. It's hard to explain, so you'll just have to listen
4: The Next Generation S7E3 “Interface” 24.03.2020 24:50
We comment heavily on how the NextGen writers beat up on LaForge for a while.
3: Deep Space 9 S3E1-S3E2 “The Search, Parts 1-2” 24.03.2020 31:49
A one-parter's worth of Star Trek in the space of a two-parter. Is that bad or good?
2: Voyager S3E4 “The Swarm” 24.03.2020 25:49
In our first episode about an actual Star Trek episode, we discuss a Voyager episode from the Captain’s hair bun era. Netflix blurb: Voyager is attacked by swarms of tiny space ships. The doctor is losing his memory, and Torres activates a program run by a familiar hologram.
