The Layman's Guide to the Lectionary

Religion EN ↓ 205 episodes

Many churches use a lectionary, a series of Bible readings, in their worship together. In a one year lectionary, you would read the same Scriptures in church this weekend next year that you would read this weekend. In this podcast, we will do a weekly Bible study (50-60 minutes) on the LCMS' three year lectionary, which is what we use in the congregation I serve. Our lectionary includes an Old Testament reading, Epistle reading, and Gospel reading. It is Pastor Andrews' goal to help you grow deeper in your understanding and love of God's Word. You may reach him at andrews@gracefaithlove.org.

We read this weekend about the new covenant of God's forgiveness for us (Jeremiah 31:31-34), how Jesus is our great High Priest (Hebrews 5:1-10), and we see how Jesus' kingdom is not like this world's kingdoms, nor is it what the disciples expect it to be (Mark 10:(32-34) 35-45). Year B - Fourth Sunday in Lent 10.03.2021

A couple of the most famous verses in God's Word show up this weekend, with Ephesians 2:1-10 (8-9 that we are saved by grace through faith, not by works) and John 3:14-21 (16, for God so loved the world).  Also, we pair those up with Numbers 21:4-9 and the plague of fiery serpents.
