From Radio to Podcasting with Michelle ODell 30.03.2020

I'm joined today by a blast from the past - Michelle O'Dell, whom I worked with in Burlington Vermont from 2007-2011.  She's beginning on the path I set out on a little while back - moving from radio to podcasting.   We talk about the transition, how other radio folks can do it, and we reminisce a little bit about our time at WXXX-FM - 95 Triple X. Google Podcasts Finally Comes to iOS 26.03.2020

A quick recap of what's happened in podcasting this week. The big news: Google Podcasts is finally available on iPhone and iPad iOS operating systems. It appears the podcast rush in this time of "social distancing" may have finally lit a fire under Google, which has been lagging behind in the space.   However, there may be some hiccups, as James Cridland explains in Thursday's issue of Podnews - a...

Remote Recording Tips 25.03.2020

Since the recommendations to limit non-essential travel and requests for social distancing, I have temporarily stopped recording on site with clients. And while I'd love to be in the same room with someone when I record a podcast, it's simply not feasible at this time.  Today I want to provide some recommendations on equipment and strategy for recording a podcast remotely. Microphones (most expens...

Is Coronavirus the big moment for podcasts? 13.03.2020

In the US, we've finally hit a tipping point with regard to Coronavirus concern.  And among all the talk of staying home, avoiding large gathering, cancelled sporting events, and working remotely - could this be podcasting's watershed moment? Now, I don't want to seem insensitive to the millions that have been and will be affected by this global pandemic.   However, the ability to record, fine tun...

How WJPZ Brought This Show Back 12.03.2020

Over the weekend, at a college reunion, my buddy Rob asked me when I was going to do another podcast. He was waiting! It was this encounter that reminded me I need to get back into doing my show.  So in this trailer for season 3, I recap the conversation and give credit to where everything started - WJPZ Syracuse. What the 90210 Reboot Can Teach Us About Podcasting 09.08.2019

Wednesday night's reboot of Beverly Hills 90210 reminded me of two cardinal rules. Know your audience, and keep it simple. The show excelled at one, and failed at the other. Selling The Sizzle 02.08.2019

This week I brought my beautiful RodeCaster Pro studio to 2 different potential clients. The sleekness of this box really impressed both of them, and the buzz around podcasting did the rest. People's "BS" meters run high, and they are very skeptical of hyperbole. But when something is genuinely buzzworthy, it's time to take advantage. Mentioned in this week's episode: RodeCaster Pro stud...

NY Times Hits, Apple Hits Back, and the Podcast World Comes to Detroit 19.07.2019

You wouldn't think that the New York Times, producer of one of the world's most successful podcasts, would question the industry as whole? But they did, in an embarrassing way, and the podcast world stood up and took notice. Also Thursday, it was reported that Apple is starting to reach out to media companies about producing content exclusively for Apple. This may have applications for the Apple T...

Podcasting 101 27.02.2019

As I've started my own podcasting company, Jag in Detroit, I decided it would be best to focus The Jag Show podcast on the field - and business - of podcasting. In the first episode of season 2, I cover the basics of starting a podcast. Who should do a podcast? Why should you do one? What's a host? Do you need an editor? What are the different schools of thoughts on all of these? For more info on...
