The Itch Rock Podcast

This week we're scratching The Itch to finally give Limp Bizkit the episode they deserve! After returning at this year's Lollapalooza (discussed in episode 61 ), Fred Durst and the gang surprise dropped their first new album in a decade on October 31. But with a new generation of rap rockers rising to prominence, including Hyro the Hero , Oxymorrons , Zero 9:36 , and even country rapper Jelly Roll...

This week we're scratching The Itch to talk about fire! Eva Under Fire , to be specific. Lead singer Eva Marie spent a rather adventurous van ride to our hometown of St. Louis talking with us about the joys of touring again, how she practices therapy on and off the stage, and the awkward first impression she made on Papa Roach's Jacoby Shaddix! Eva is a gifted interpersonal communicator, and this...

In this episode, we're scratching the itch to do a sequel! The first episode in our "The Itch On Tour" series, we hadn't actually SEEN the tour in question. But now that has been remedied! Join us as we discuss our experience at P.O.D. 's Satellite 20th Anniversary Tour, featuring From Ashes to New and All Good Things . Stick around to hear about Dan's home decorating tips, and pick a si...

In this episode, we're scratching The Itch to choose violence! After their 2018 album _ Thread_ won our hearts (and the #4 spot on that year's Top Albums list), Red Sun Rising announced a potentially permanent hiatus in early 2020. A few months later, an anonymous band called The Violent arrived on the scene with the powerful single " Fly On The Wall ". Soon after, it was revealed that t...

In this episode, The Itch goes to Kansas! On the strength of three great 2021 albums from Badflower , Teenage Wrist , and Dead Poet Society and a great experience seeing Badflower at Pointfest last month, KC and Aaron traveled to The Bottleneck in Lawrence, Kansas to see the This Is How The World Ends Tour. Join us as we discuss the albums and the live performances from all three bands. Spoiler: I...

In last year's Rush episode with our friend Rich Lamberty, Aaron asked Dan a question about his Metallica fandom. We sat on this clip for a long time, but in connection with this week's episode covering the Black album, as well as Metallica's release of The Blacklist, we decided that now was the time! Aren't you glad The Itch never really sweeps the cutting room floor? And hey, if you're looking f...

It's time for some rock history! In this episode, The Itch is joined by our friend Russ from the Infectious Groove Podcast to discuss August and September of 1991, aka "two months that changed rock music," capped by the releases from September 24, which has been called the " biggest release day in history. " We'll cover classic rock legends maintaining relevance, one of the big...

In our Pointfest/Riot Fest episode, Dan told a story about missing an entire set by The Used while waiting in line for a beer. Back in February, during the recording of our episode on The Pretty Reckless, The Itch went into a bit of a giggle fit regarding that very event, leading to 4 minutes of (hopefully) good-natured ribbing at the expense of a band that probably didn't deserve it. With that in...

After two years, The Itch has seen some festivals! And now... we have thoughts. Join us as we take you through Dan & KC's day at Pointfest in St. Louis and Aaron's simultaneous time at Riot Fest in Chicago. There will be metal, political rants, and inappropriate touching. Plus, a pop-punk loudmouth bites off more than he can chew by insulting a 50-year-old man in a mask. As also mentioned in t...

We're back on the interview grind! In this episode, we have a chat with the delightful Daisy Dead, bassist and (understudy harsh) vocalist for The Dead Deads , whose killer (heh) new album Tell Your Girls It's Alright combines the best sounds of glam, punk, grunge, and straight up rock (especially of the 90s variety). Along the way we'll talk about their tour with Candlebox, how to play t...

In this episode, The Itch is forced to improvise! A delay to the episode idea we wanted to record forced us back to the drawing board, leading to perhaps the strangest split of episode topics yet. First, as this episode was recorded on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, we take a look at the infamous Clear Channel Banned Songs list that was sent to over 1,000 radio stations in the aftermath of the atta...

The Itch is making another guest appearance! This time it's discussing the wonderful "Weird Al" Yankovic with our friend Lauren from the Beer'd Al Podcast ! Check out her episode with us, and then probably all the others. They're worth it. Also, the folks at Goodpods are doing a great job of supporting indie podcasters and creating community. So if you use the app (and that's no...

The Itch has a new segment! Since concerts are happening more frequently these days, we're gonna see ourselves some shows and report back with our findings. First up: P.O.D. 's Satellit e 20th Anniversary tour, featuring From Ashes to New , All Good Things , and Sleep Signals . This one comes with a twist, in that we're not exactly talking about the tour proper, but the discussion still goes to so...

In this episode, The Itch has got the blues! Blues rock, that is. Join us as we discuss recent releases from Southern rock mainstays Blackberry Smoke , London busker Cam Cole , and son of a legend Wolfgang Van Halen's Mammoth WVH . Find out what separates them, what drew us to them, and how Dan got over his disdain for genre labels enough to link them together! And hey, when you're done, follow ou...

In this episode, The Itch turns back the clock a decade to revisit two handfuls of our favorite albums from 2011! We won't spoil the surprise by listing them all here, but trust that Stefon voice this episode has EVERYTHING! Post-grunge, reggae-metal, indie rock, club bangers, hip hop, Dan Cortese, and alternative weirdos! Enjoy! And hey, when you're done, follow our New Rock Roundup playlist and...

The Itch loves to talk about albums... but not just full-length LPs. Sometimes a band drops a noteworthy EP as well. In fact, over the past few months, we've heard enough fantastic new EPs that we're dedicating an entire episode to them (and it might not be the only one)! We've got Nothing But Thieves ' Moral Panic II , (Hed) P.E. 's Sandmine , Crashface 's debut Heavy Infectious , and Eve 6 's Gr...

The Itch is back! For our season premiere, let's talk about fests, baby! Let's talk about you and meee... Lollapalooza happened and Limp Bizkit was back... and then they weren't (but that happened after this recording). Rock fests and cruises are still happening for now. Plus, we finally book the mythical Itchfest! 3 Itch members. 3 days. 18 great bands. Listen to see how much you also wish it wer...

Earlier this year, The Itch had the privilege of being guests on The Struggling Artist Podcast , where we had a great conversation with our friend Trev Allen about the history (and future) of The Itch. As we prepare for our return, Trev was kind enough to let us post his episode here. So we invite you to give our interview a listen, and then explore the rest of Trev's conversations with musicians...

Remember back in episode 18 when we discussed the potential end of (hed) p.e.? Well they're back (with a new EP called Sandmine ), and, in honor of our guest spot on Podioslave's Wheel of Nu Metal episode , so is a bit of audio from our old recording. We like the band's names almost as much as we like their music. For a track from that new EP, and a bunch of other great recent releases, c...

The Itch is still on vacation! But even so, we've got some nu content for you... nu metal content, that is. After appearing on our Jimmy Eat World episode a few weeks back, our friends from Podioslave invited us to join them for an episode on those early 2000s sounds that we're so fond of. Join us as we spin the famous Wheel of Nu Metal and see which bands wind up on our own Mount Rushmores! Also,...

We're still on vacation, but in the meantime, we wanted to revisit an evergreen topic we discussed in season one: mental health. It's now been four years since Chester Bennington took his own life. In this episode, The Itch reflects on his legacy, recent music from his former bandmates Grey Daze and Mike Shinoda , and the future of Linkin Park . For even more on Chester's life , you can l...

The Itch is taking a few weeks off from recording new episodes. But as we prep to launch season 3, we decided to take a trip down memory lane by revisiting a few of our favorite episodes from season 1, aka the Rock Matters Era! First up, since last week's episode on Jimmy Eat World 's Bleed American (with our friends from Podioslave , who you'll he hearing about again soon!), wasn't really an Inde...
