The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

This is the legendary jazz fusion group Return to Forever on April 8, 1977, in Santa Monica, California. This show was captured by Mike Millard and sounds just beyond the beyond good. RIP Chick Corea.

We listen to one of the best shows of Led Zeppelin's 1973 North American tour. 7/21/73 in Providence, Rhode Island. A good low gen audience source is used, and we hear Over the Hills, No Quarter (amazing!), and Heartbreaker. Great one, folks.

I present a Mike Millard master recording of Genesis at the LA Forum on 4/17/78, supporting And Then There Were 3. The recording is stellar as is the performance. Squonk, The Lady Lies, and Follow You Follow Me are featured.

This is a BRAND NEW Led Zeppelin show that had been previously unheard. July 5, 1969 at the Atlanta Pop Festival. What a great recording (audience) of a brilliantly high powered Led Zeppelin screaming through an amazing set. Thanks to the Dogs of Doom for liberating this great show.

This is the legendary Jan. 26, 1969 Boston Tea Party gig that allegedly lasted 4 hours. We only have a portion of that night taped, but by god it's one of the best ever. It may be Jimmy's best show. Unreal power, mystery, fun, and rock and roll. Legendary show.

This is a great radio performance from Dec. 8, 1976 featuring Jackson Browne & Warren Zevon. They accompany each other on their respective songs, and it makes for a lovely, intimate unplugged concert. The Offender meets the Pretender.

We wrap up our dive in June 26, 1977 and Led Zeppelin's amazing concert at the LA Forum, by listening to blistering performances of Achilles Last Stand, Stairway, and It'll Be Me (a Jerry Lee Lewis cover). A brilliant show.

Mike Millard captured the Grateful Dead at the LA Colosseum on June 1, 1991 and we get to hear it, straight from the master tape. I play Shakedown Street, Bertha, and Not Fade Away.

We dive deeper into 6/26/77 at the LA Forum, Led Zeppelin's 4th of 5 nights. I play SIBLY, the ENTIRE acoustic set, WS/BM/Kashmir. It's great. The vibes are real and wonderful in this one. Jimmy ate his Wheaties and is playing like the old days. A great one.

We listen to an awesome Dire Straits show from Oct. 6, 1985 at Boston's illustrious Wang Theatre. Mark Knopfler kills it and plays a very high energy show. Great quality as well. Must have.

We listen to another great 1st generation recording by St. Mike Millard, from June 28, 1981 at the LA Forum. This is the Long Distance Voyager tour, with Patrick Moraz playing keyboards. Lots of hits in this show.

We listen to the underappreciated gem 6/26/77 LA Forum gig of Led Zeppelin. The 4th of 5 nights at the Forum. A great performance and fantastic playing on No Quarter and 10 Years Gone. Maybe my favorite '77 gig.

This is wonderful recording of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers at the LA Forum, June 30, 1981. Stevie Nicks joins them onstage for a couple of songs, and Mike Millard was there to record it all for us. This is a great show from the Hard Promises tour. Not to be missed.

We finish up our look at Sept 14, 1971 with Led Zeppelin at Berkeley, California. I play a Stairway to Heaven played 2 months before Zep 4 came out, and a rollicking Whole Lotta Love with so many medleys. Enjoy!

This is a great recording of a secret gig played under the name Blessed Chloroform. The Black Crowes played a club in London on Oct. 31, 1994 and we listen to it. This is a great band at a great time in their career. A good one.

We listen to an excellent stereo vinyl rip of 9/14/71 in Berkley Cali. Insane performances of SIBLY and Dazed, as well as the mellow acoustic That's The Way and Going to California. A great one, folks.

An incredible recording of the ARMS tour from the LA Forum, December 6, 1983. We hear Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page playing individual sets, as well as together, to benefit Ronnie Lane. A legendary tour.

This is a great recording from March 21, 1970, the show opener of Led Zeppelin's 5th American tour, in Vancouver BC. We hear an embyonic Since I've Been Loving You (won't be released for 7 more months)Heartbreaker, Thank You and Communication Breakdown. Merry Christmas one an all.

This is an excellent Mike Millard master recording of Queen from December 20, 1977 in Long Beach, CA. This is the News of the World tour and Freddie and Co. are in fine form. It doesn't get better than this.

We listen to an great audience tape of Sept 6, 1983 which is when Robert Plant played the Worcester Centrum, in Worcester, MA. Phil Collins was drumming for this show, and it's awesome. The audience is ecstatic and very very high energy. A really good show.

We listen to a wonderful show from the Beacon Theater in NYC, from April 1975 by Little Feat, touring in support of The Last Record Album. The sound is excellent, the performance is excellent, as are the songs, and the band. It's a good one.

This is our third episode spelunking the excellent March 19, 1975 Led Zep show in Vancouver, BC. In this episode I play the epic 41 minute Dazed and Confused, and not much else. It's brilliant.

This is the brilliant Millard Master recording of Paul McCartney and Wings, at the LA Forum on June 3, 1976. This is the tour from which WIngs Across America was recorded. Wings and Beatles tunes abound!

We finish up our visit to March 19, 1975 with Led Zeppelin in Vancouver BC. I play a funky Trampled Underfoot and a transcendent No Quarter with excellent performances by all. A ribald and raucous show. I use Grame's remaster of the excellent soundboard as my source.

We listen to a radio broadcast of an excellent Stevie Ray Vaughan performance from November 1989. The sound quality is excellent as is the performance. That man could PLAY! A great show.
