The Happy Mama Movement with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
Motherhood changes us. As the generation who were told we could do anything and be anything we want to be, accepting the changes that come with motherhood can be very difficult. This podcast is a collection of stories of matrescence, motherhood, womanhood and change, told by our Mama Rising coaches and mothers around the globe. Through our stories and community, we hope that the wisdom of the rite of passage of matrescence spreads far and wide, and that we can begin to change the way we see, value and support ALL mothers everywhere. Because we really need it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/pri...

Ep 57 - Alcohol and finding the right tools in life with Talitha Cummins 19.06.2018 25:16
How do we cope with the pressure everyday? When the world is demanding so much of us, what tools are we given to get through as best we can? The truth is - most of us have been handed down unhealthy ways of dealing with pressure. And whether it's alcohol, over-eating, social media, or something else that just drains you even more, it's time we acknowledged as women that we need a new way. We need...
Ep 56 - It's right in front of us 12.06.2018 11:54
A really rough night's sleep, and a super frantic morning, is something most of us have to deal with. As women with so much on our plate, the realities of our lives can sometimes make our whole body fill with anxiety. So how did a recent morning just like this, and the subsequent fall out, help Amy see what she most needed? And how can we pull ourselves back in the moment to stop that free fall in...
Ep 55 - The real purpose of parenting with Dr Vanessa Lapointe 29.05.2018 26:39
Dr Vanessa Lapointe has an interesting take on the purpose of parenting. Sure, having children is about expanding your family and experiencing unconditional love, but at the core of it, she believes that parenting is here to challenge us - to challenge us to grow, to look at our old belief patterns, and to push us to expand and grow. Looking back, it's obvious that's what parenting is all about. W...
Ep 54 - Turning on the Feminine 22.05.2018 13:12
Let's face it - we live in a masculine world. We celebrate strength and endurance, we define success by how quickly we climb the ladder and how busy we are, and we push down any emotions that may be seen as 'weak'. Our society worships busyness and getting on with the job, and so anything that is opposite to that feels like a failure. Including resting, slowing down, being vulnerable, and honourin...

In this episode, Amy shares her experience of taking herself and her children completely offline and 'out bush' for five days, and the effect it had on...
Ep 52 - The responsibility of self-care 08.05.2018 13:42
We already have so much on our plate each day, the idea of adding in more is often too much to handle. Add in more that is all about getting more rest, more time off, more self-care? Impossible. At least that's what we tell ourselves, right? Here's the thing - our self-care, happiness and connection is our responsibility. Harsh, but true. We can not keep waiting for something to happen, or somethi...
Ep 51 - The grit to face anything with Sally Obermeder 01.05.2018 28:28
Imagine at 41 weeks pregnant, about to become a first-time mama, you are suddenly whisked in for tests after tests for a lump you've discovered in your breast. And imagine just hours later, you're told you have aggressive breast cancer, and treatment must start immediately if you are to survive. It's a harrowing thought, but for journalist, author and mama of two Sally Obermeder , this was her rea...
Ep 50 - Why can't I slow down? 24.04.2018 14:42
"Why can't I just allow myself to sit down and relax? Why do I always feel like I need to be doing more?" This was a question from a Happy Mama recently, and it prompted Amy to look at our addiction to busyness, and why we find it so hard to allow ourselves to just stop, and do nothing. Looking at what we believe about ourselves, and how we can begin to switch off that over-achieving part of our b...

Ep 48 - Social media and mindfulness: how to disconnect to connect 10.04.2018 13:35
It's the ultimate love/hate relationship of modern times, isn't it? Our love of being connected, and our hate of being always connected. Hundreds of mamas have shared with me their struggles with social media: they feel addicted, they know it takes them away from their family, they don't know how to switch off. So how do we mindfully use this amazing tool without completely losing ourselves in it?...

Ep 44 - Work and the Hidden Shame of Judgement 27.02.2018 12:01
One of the greatest struggles for mamas at the moment is the belief that when we return to work, we need to pretend we are not mothers. To be successful, we have to be just like everyone else, and just like we were before kids. And if we aren't, we'll be judged. But how do we change that? Here, Amy shares recent research she's done on this area, and how we might start to break the silence. Hosted...
