Let's look at a parable Jesus tells about two people. One good, one bad, and one ugly. If you can do the math, you realize this doesn't add up. And that's the point. But a word of caution, this story will challenge us all!

I think the perfect way to wrap up and punctuate our series on Exodus, is to invite you into a conversation with me and my friend, Rabbi Asher Knight. This week, God has given the Israelites the Ten Commandments. They were a radical leap forward in human ethics at the time they were given. Today, we tend to look at them as trite or antiquated, but they are every bit as relevant in our modern world. So far in this sermon series, we have journeyed with the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. This week, we meet them in the wilderness, where they have been wandering for 45 days. In Hollywood, suspense is the key ingredient to success. No one wants to watch a movie where they know exactly what will happen. In real life, though, suspense can feel disorienting. When we don't know what's going to happen, we feel lost, ungrounded, and often aren't our best selves. What can Moses's story teach us about how God can use this time of uncertainty?

This week we start a new series on Exodus. Maybe it's been a while since you've read this story in your Bible, but it's the perfect story for us right now. Exodus is the story of God drawing his people out into the wilderness, into the uncertainty and the unknown, to draw them into a relationship with Him. And we think God is doing this same thing with us right now, too.

These are unusual and stressful times. Many people have lost hope. How does the story of Easter relate to us today? 

Have you ever felt the storm coming? How do you react? Do you respond to the storms of life in fear? Jesus felt fear, too. How can Jesus's reaction to His fear during Holy Week teach us to respond?

When times are difficult, when things aren't going your way, what do you do? Where do you put your trust? Is your trust conditional? Oftentimes, we allow ourselves to think, "Only if [the thing I want to happen] happens will I trust God." What happens when we switch to an "Even if" narrative?

We are in a new, strange reality these days. As we adjust to this new normal, how do we navigate it? How do we respond to the uncertainty as people of faith? Let's take a look at what scripture says about dealing with the impact of this type of crisis.

While spending Sunday morning in our homes instead of being together at The Grove is not ideal, I am confident it is the wisest choice. I hope you find this sermon encouraging. During uncertain times we must anchor ourselves on that which is certain. Do not worry, our God is with us.
