"Why a King is the Good News: Worship & Security" part 3 (John 1:32-34, 49) 23.04.2023

That Jesus is a king is the good news because as king, Jesus fulfills the kingly roles of enabling His people to worship acceptably (and to have joy from that) and of defeating our enemy of death to forge for us a secure place to live (now, upon death, and upon His return).

"Why a King is the Good News: Forgiveness" (Part 2), from John 1 16.04.2023

God's people get the good benefits of God through His King, Jesus (today:  forgiveness and the building of the Church).

"Why a King is the Gospel: He Conquers & Brings Blessing," from John 1 26.03.2023

First-century, Jewish Christians believed that having a king was good news.  So should we. Here’s why.

Christ = King (John 1, part two) 19.03.2023

Christ is the Greek word for “anointed one,” and meant to the first-century, Jewish and Christian world:  king.  This greatly affects our view of Jesus and defines the what the “good news” is.

"What is 'the Christ'?" John 1 (part one) 12.03.2023

John seeks to assure his readers that the Christ is Jesus; but what does “Christ” mean?

"The Christ is Jesus, the Divine Son of God," John 20:29-31 (The Gospel of John, sermon 1). 05.03.2023

The Christ is Jesus, who is the divine Son of God.  Few believe this, so this belief will cost me, but this belief is well-worth it.

“The Moral Law of God is Good” (1 Kings 22:41-53, part two). 26.02.2023

God's law is disaster for salvation (we cannot be accepted by God based on our obedience to His law), but is blessing as a guide for life.

"Who is My God?" 20.02.2023

What determines who is your god?

“My Eternity Rests on Jesus' Faithfulness” 12.02.2023

Your eternal safety and blessing depend on Jesus' being your king.

"Benefit Now and in the End, from Jesus," 1 Kings 22:1-40, part two 05.02.2023

The wicked often prosper today, but it is temporary.

"Love God's Truth” (1 Kings 22:1-29, 34-36) 29.01.2023

Love God's Word.  Come to it.  Be taught by it.  Accept its rebuke and correction.

"Staying in God's Blessing," 1 Kings 21, part two 22.01.2023

God loves His people, so He disciplines them for their good.  Whether by discipline or by avoiding it, we can experience God's blessings.

"Influencers and Your Life," from 1 Kings 21:1-19 15.01.2023

The influence that is wise to have on our lives is that of Jesus and of those who know and love Him.

"Killing the King, in My Life," from 1 Kings 20:22-30 08.01.2023

Jesus came to protect your life by enabling you to be faithful.

"The Gospel: Kill the King," from 1 Kings 20:22-43 01.01.2023

Jesus, as king of His people, protects His people for eternity from the king who would do them harm.

“Gold, Incense, and Myrrh: Jesus, the Priest & Temple,” from Matthew 2:7-12. 29.12.2022

The gifts offered to Jesus foreshadowed His coming work as temple and priest for His people.

“Bethlehem, a King, & the Good News of Christmas,” Matthew 2:1-12, 16-17 18.12.2022

The significance of Bethlehem at Jesus' birth is that now God's people have a king who is their shepherd. This is good news!

“Immanuel: God With Us, to Save," Matthew 1:18-25 11.12.2022

Every person has the enemies of Satan, death, final judgment, and the sin nature within. The victory over each of these is only obtained by God being with a person. Immanuel, which means "God with us," is Jesus.

"David's Son: The Birth of Jesus, Part Two," Matthew 1:1-17 04.12.2022

Jesus is the son (descendant) of David. This means that Jesus is king (and His kingdom is the good news!).

"Abraham’s Son: The Birth of Jesus, Part One,” Matthew 1:1-17, Galatians 3 & 5, 11.27.2022 27.11.2022

Jesus is the son (descendant) of Abraham, and therefore an inheritor of the promise of a kingdom. Through faith in Jesus, a person becomes a co-heir of the kingdom with Jesus. This brings great benefits to the believer in life and in the life hereafter.

"Faithful Action from Faith," 1 Kings 20:1-21, Part Two 20.11.2022

God promises, in the gospel, protection in life and an eternal inheritance upon death. The more we believe these promises, the more we act in faithfulness.

"Hope from Loss" 13.11.2022

Human beings are born into loss, and more loss is in their futures. Jesus recovers for His people the loss, which they could not recover for themselves.

“Church Authorities are for You,” 1 Kings 19:15-21 (part two) 06.11.2022

Why listening to faithful, ordained church elders makes sense (and what a church elder & pastor is to be about).

"Church Authorities," 1 Kings 19:15-21, 10.30.2022 30.10.2022

God ordains human authorities for His people, for their good.

"World Upside Down," 1 Kings 19.7-18, 10.23.2022 23.10.2022

In this life, things are not as they should be. God shows us through Elijah what we need to “get through.”
