Kevin & The Mayor
The Flopcast
Live from Chickentown, we sip nasty black coffee and talk about silly & geeky things. Frequent subjects include: Saturday morning cartoons, music, comic books, TV and movies of the 1970s and 1980s, and, uh, chickens. (We like chickens.) Also lots of convention talk, as we regularly attend Dragon Con and other nerdy gatherings. We're frightened and confused. Join us!

Flopcast 139: Wait, What's Going On? 04.01.2015 38:38
The rumors are true! The government is secretly controlled by zombie chickens from space! Also, the Flopcast is now part of the Earth Station One Network! That's right, we've completely sold out! We've even adopted a stodgy corporate attitude! But otherwise it's business as usual around here, and that means a new Top 4 1/2 List for the new year. In fact, the theme of this week's list is "new" -- a...
Flopcast 138: Wink Martindale on a Trampoline 28.12.2014 28:05
It's our final Flopcast of 2014, so we're extra goofy and exhausted! This week: National Buffet Day reminds us of yet another creepy tale of Woonsocket; Gunpowder Gelatine has Queen cover songs (but no Flash Gordon); Aquanutz has hair metal cover songs (and a duck); Molly Ringwald has sushi; Kevin So throws it all away, Phil Collins-style; we're strangely obsessed with the dragon on Tic Tac Dough;...
Flopcast 137: The Figgy Pudding Pages 21.12.2014 26:28
Our goofy holiday celebrations continue here in Chickentown! (We already have plenty of grievances; now we just need a Festivus pole.) Kornflake is celebrating with Legos and a giant tree-shaped pile of lobster traps; Kevin checks out some discount bin holiday albums from Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, REO Speedwagon (!), and a disgruntled reindeer; in a shocking "Chickens in the News" segment, we le...
Flopcast 136: Walk Like a Christmas Chicken 14.12.2014 26:02
We're celebrating the holidays in Chickentown by drinking coffee and making podcasts! (It's pretty festive around here all year, actually.) Kevin reports on recent shows by Garfunkel and Oates (but not DJ Jazzy Jeff), and Aimee Mann (whose Christmas show guests included Jonathan Coulton and an actual Bangle); Kornflake reports on weird holiday lawn decorations (yes, turkeys are involved) and her o...
Flopcast 135: In Living Lobster Color 07.12.2014 30:23
Kornflake's renovation plans involve an Atari 2600 and a hammock; it's National "Blossom" Day, but we're more interested in "My Two Dads" and "Gimme a Break"; we compare weddings and science fiction conventions (because sometimes it's hard to tell the difference); Kornflake attends an a capella concert that includes a lollipop thief and a rumble; cartoonist Whit Taylor teaches us how to mess with...
Flopcast 134: Super Megafest 2014 - Can't Beat a Space Monkey 30.11.2014 28:38
Kornflake makes her triumphant return to Chickentown, just in time to teach us about unfrozen cavemen! (Was our favorite Facts of Life girl Mindy Cohn ever frozen in ice? Perhaps not, but it's a rumor we just sort of started.) Then Kevin reports on our final convention of the year, Super Megafest! Including: Hula hooping with Niki Luparelli, Barbapapa talk with Ken Reid, legendary comic book artis...
Flopcast 133: Flopsgiving Turkeys 23.11.2014 29:05
We kick off the holidays with an extra-weird show, because Kornflake was too busy to join us in the studio! But worry not -- the Mayor of Chickentown stepped in as emergency guest co-host, and we figured out how to get Kornflake on the show anyway! (Sort of.) This week: Kevin and the Mayor discuss the recent TV Guidance Counselor live show with Emmanuel Lewis (now available in convenient podcast f...
Flopcast 132: Hillbilly Burrito 16.11.2014 30:32
Kornflake attends yet another Lindsay and TV's Kyle wedding (those crazy kids just can't stop getting married) and gets stuck on a lobster sign (of course); Kevin reports on shows by comedian Jim Gaffigan (yes, the Hot Pockets guy) and Irish rock band Black 47 (yes, their sax player was in Dexy's Midnight Runners, and yes, this is very important); we celebrate Danny DeVito's 70th birthday (and arg...
Flopcast 131: Rhode Island Comic Con 2014 - We Have Cookies 09.11.2014 44:55
Rhode Island Comic Con was a huge crazy fun event once again... as long as you could get inside, and stay inside. (Alas, there were some major crowd control "hiccups"...) Kevin somehow managed to do both, and shares a full convention report with Kornflake and the Mayor of Chickentown! Featuring: The stars of Clerks and Chasing Amy (they aren't even supposed to be here today!); a Raiders of the Los...
Flopcast 130: Psychedelic Levitating Tapeworm 02.11.2014 26:44
Kornflake is running from the law as her ribbon-twirling habit spirals out of control; we're paranoid and suspicious about National Bittersweet Chocolate With Almonds Day (it's run by a big eastern syndicate, you know); and Kevin and the Mayor are back from San Diego, where they found capybaras, Chuck Jones art, Comicon (albeit three months late), secret weird artichoke drinks, and the bitter real...
Flopcast 129: Bigfoot Needs Pants 26.10.2014 29:44
Break out your lousy miniature Almond Joy bars -- it's Halloween in Chickentown again! But this year, instead of discussing more traditional Halloween monsters (like Count Chocula), we're talking about Bigfoot! These days Kornflake is a huge fan of Bigfoot from the Perhapanauts comic book series. Meanwhile Kevin recalls Bigfoot's glory days of the mid-70s, when he was hanging around with Isis, the...
Flopcast 128: All the Nuts 19.10.2014 39:33
A totally exhausted Kornflake is back from California, where she attended the wedding of our awesome friends, TV's Kyle and Lindsay! It was pretty much a typical wedding... except for a parade of comedy music performances, bellydancing raccoons, a video game-themed flute solo, a celebrity Ring Bear, a trip to Goofy's Kitchen, a Boob Tree bachelor party (which sounds naughty, but isn't), a song by...
Flopcast 127: Caribbean Chicken Queen 12.10.2014 26:00
Kevin and Kornflake talk about "Kyle and Luke Talk About Toons," as well as the end of Saturday morning cartoons on network TV (but to us, of course, they'll never really go away -- and that's one to grow on); Kevin reports on MICE (the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo), at which he found comic books featuring Andre the Giant, high school life, brain parts, private parts, turkeys, and a wicke...
Flopcast 126: You're the Beaker 05.10.2014 30:19
This week, in an effort to make the Top 4 1/2 List even stupider, we're listing our favorite mouths. So yes, get ready for a parade of mouth-themed cartoon characters, superheroes, wrestlers, commercials, and 90s rock bands. Hey, if we missed your favorite mouth, please let us know! (Before you ask: We didn't list Eddie Murphy's 1989 Top 40 hit "Put Your Mouth On Me," but only because it's horribl...
Flopcast 125: Tootie, We Still Love You 28.09.2014 24:07
In honor of Name Your Car Day, Kornflake reveals her car's name, which was totally inspired by Kenny Rogers; everyone freaks out over the recent Facts of Life cast reunion and upcoming DVD set (Edna's Edibles, here we come); Kevin drops by the Funny Music Podcast to discuss "Orko, Slimer, Wicket, and Snarf" (Luke Ski's new tribute to your favorite 80s cartoon characters); and this week's "Chickens...
Flopcast 124: Three Jobs, a Dog, and a Hula Hoop 21.09.2014 31:14
As we enter the fall, Kevin asks Kornflake about her various silly late summer activities. This was probably a huge mistake. The discussion includes: VHS tapes of punctuation-based humor, good books and bad dates, bringing lobsters to the car wash (for science!), thinking about Mr. T (it's what we do), and another Hula Hoop update (introducing the terrifying concept of "crust-hooping"). Meanwhile,...
Flopcast 123: DragonCon 2014 - Disco Hobbits in the Habitrails 14.09.2014 1:09:12
Kevin and the Mayor are back in Chickentown with a full report on the craziest convention of the year: DragonCon! Featuring: Land of the Lost's Will, Holly, Chaka, and a Sleestak; Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey; the Karate Kid and Ponyboy Curtis; Match Game in the 25th Century; Mystery Science Theater 3000's Joel, Trace, Frank, and a photobombing Tom Servo; concerts by Molly Lewis, Mikey M...
Flopcast 122: Shirt Tales 07.09.2014 53:14
We're still in DragonCon recovery mode this week, so instead of a "normal" show, here's something special we've been saving for you. Last summer at CONvergence in Bloomington, Minnesota, Kevin was on a panel about one of our favorite subjects: Saturday morning cartoons! Yikes, what fun -- it's a roomful of crazy people screaming about all their favorite shows, including Super Friends, Adventure Ti...
Flopcast 121: We Had a Dream, We Had an Awesome Dream 31.08.2014 25:27
Here's a weird little show we prepared for you just before Kevin ran screaming from Chickentown for DragonCon. This week: Kornflake lives every day like it's Be Late For Something Day; a trip into the Pudding Pages has us talking about air hockey (which we love, even if we're no Kelly Leak); and our "Chickens in the News" segment inspires us to study the effects of Lionel Richie on rubber chickens...
Flopcast 120: DragonCon Preview - We're Looking for Yip Yips 24.08.2014 28:18
Once again it's time to wander down to Atlanta for the greatest and geekiest gathering of the year: DragonCon. In this preview episode, we discuss our favorite upcoming DragonCon events (don't miss the Atlanta Star Party on DragonCon Eve!), performers (Anaria! Molly Lewis! Mikey Mason!), and celebrity guests (Picard! Cliff Clavin! A Land of the Lost cast reunion! And THE KARATE KID!!!). Kevin will...
Flopcast 119: Boston Comic Con 2014 - No Whammies No Whammies 17.08.2014 30:28
If Kevin and Kornflake sound exhausted, you can blame Boston Comic Con, which was huge and crazy and perhaps a bit overcrowded and WOULD ALL YOU MANIACS JUST GET OUT OF OUR WAY?!? Thank you. Wandering the convention, we encountered Space Chickens, Tiki Zombies, Press Your Luck Whammies, Amy the Mermaid, Jewel Staite's finger, Sergio Aragones' mustache, and 50,000 people in Doctor Who costumes. And...
Flopcast 118: Bacon Grenade 10.08.2014 21:22
Kevin and Kornflake are completely unprepared for Presidential Joke Day; Kornflake's annual report from the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival includes potato songs, mystery hammocks, bacon grenades, and trouble with the law; Kevin's latest concert report features Freezepop, Br1ght Pr1mate, and keytar shrapnel (which is not a band, but a thing that happened); and Marvel's new Guardians of the Galaxy movie...
Flopcast 117: Taco is Not a Robot 03.08.2014 38:48
As requested by absolutely no one, it's time for our third annual robot-themed Top 4 1/2 List! This year the subject is robot songs -- songs about robots, and yes, songs BY robots. (Since robots are superior to humans in every way, their music tends to be way better than ours.) The list includes lots of synthpop, lots of Styx, and (because Kornflake is involved) lots of sock puppets. Also: Our Bos...
Flopcast 116: Flopnado 27.07.2014 22:13
Kevin and Kornflake take a break from their seemingly nonstop convention and concert schedule, and enjoy a miserably hot summer day in Chickentown, where the iced coffee is their only friend. This week's topics include: giant rodents; angry pies; the Rifftrax Live version of Sharknado (featuring our hero, Robbie Rist); Kevin's all-time favorite summer movies (featuring our other heroes, Cindy Morg...
Flopcast 115: CONvergence 2014 - The Floor Is Lava 20.07.2014 37:47
This week we're joined by the Mayor of Chickentown to discuss our weekend at CONvergence in Bloomington, Minnesota! A few thousand of our fellow geeks (including our friends from Skepchick and Mad Art Lab) gathered there for four days of science and silliness. Kevin appeared on a few nerdy comic book-themed panels, while the Mayor participated in a Doctor Who improv game show (which also included...
