Sam tricks Roy and Ann into descending the mountain. After sneaking past guards, the trio searches the valley for Ann's mother and a mysterious paper left by the boys' grandfather. Will they find the answers they seek?

Descending into the misty valley, Ann, Sam, and Roy find the Goodwin boys' grandfather's body and a dark truth. Just as they begin to read his papers, they are interrupted by valley residents Arbor and Dolina.

Reaching the Scholar is harder than expected, forcing Violet to search Picasso's ruined shop for clues. When the trail leads the group toward both old and new enemies, they must face the heavy consequences of their choices.

Picasso reveals why he chose Violet for training. Meanwhile, suspicious votes lead Violet and Stylus to question Defiance's "perfect" system. Recognizing a kindred spirit, Violet invites Stylus to join her secret guild.
