Nik Cameron
The Department of Metal Antiquities
As a musical genre, heavy metal (and all it's sub-genres) has only existed for 50 years, but in that time there have been a great many happenings that we have collectively forgotten. In this podcast Nik Cameron and Duncan Evans will be going through albums, concerts, etc in a vain glorious attempt to remember it all. We contextualize the subject and then we take it track by track. In the end, we'll tell you if you should spin it or bin it.

DMA #116: "Voyuers" by 2wo (Rob Halford and John 5) 03.04.2023 49:04
In the middle 90's, an unknown, to the world, studio guitarist by the name of John Lowery, hooked up with the metal god himself, Rob Halford. So, naturally, they did some seriously metal things together! Join us as we dig deep into their one and only studio record. Help Nik clean his closet of metal cds, dvds, blu-rays, and odd video game items: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?item=27576300992...
DMA #115: "Flesh Caffeine" by John Christ Featuring Abaddonia 20.03.2023 1:07:25
Back in 1999, John Christ, formerly of Danzig and Samhain, dropped his only solo record to date. What makes this episode a bit on the difficult side is the lack of information surrounding it. Thankfully, we were joined by St. Louis locals, Abaddonia, who were good and chatty about all things metal, St. Louis, and awesome. DMA #113: "British Lion" by Steve Harris 27.02.2023 47:45
It's time again to get into the good stuff from the Iron Maiden camp. In 2012, Steve Harris finally made good on his promise with UK act, British Lion, to make their album. Unfortunately, by this time the band had broken up and he had to step into the bassist's shoes. This should be a problem for the beast of the bass right?
DMA #112: "The DEP Sessions" by Tony Iommi f/Glenn Hughes (joined by Clouds Taste Satanic) 19.02.2023 1:19:31
In the middle of 1996, Tony Iommi reunited with his old friend, Glenn Hughes, late of Deep Purple, Trapeze, and uh..Black Sabbath to make a brand new "solo" album. Unfortunately, the album, which in bootleg circles, would come to be known as The 8th Star, would be shelved for nearly a decade. In 2004, this record finally saw the light of day. This week we are joined by Steve Scavuzzo of Clouds Tas...

This year, it's been announced that all of the forgotten Black Sabbath albums featuring Tony Martin are going to be re-released. With that, we came to the obvious conclusion that we should dig into another one of those Tony Martin albums and we settled on The Eternal Idol! We were joined by Autumn, of Forever Autumn and she was good enough to give us her takes on this forgotten record as well. Che...

DMA #106: "Jesus Killing Machine" by Voodoocult 27.12.2022 1:04:21
When Duncan and Nik were researching Grip Inc, they came across a record by a band called Voodoo Cult featuring Chuck Schuldiner of Death, Dave Lombardo of Slayer, Waldemar Sorychta of Despair, and Mille Petrozza of Kreator! How had this record gone so unnoticed. If you thought this episode couldn't get any better, you were wrong! The fellas were joined by Henry Derek Elis! Check out our gue...
DMA #105: Twisted Sister "A Twisted Christmas" 20.12.2022 1:06:47
Welcome to the holiday edition of The Department of Metal Antiquities! This time Nik and Duncan get into holiday traditions, what's the best roast dinner, what in the world is a jumper, and how hard is it to cook a duck from Aldi. Then when all of that silliness is over, they get into what happened on Twisted Sister's last studio record, which just happened to be a Christmas album. Get on it and l...
DMA #104: "The Power of Inner Strength" by Grip Inc (Featuring Dave Lombardo of Slayer) 12.12.2022 1:12:47
In 1995, the ex-drummer from Slayer, Dave Lombardo, released the first of many non-Slayer albums of his career. He was joined by some relatively unknown members to create a thrash(?) band of little reknown. Duncan and Nik dig into this, the history of Messir Lombardo, and all of the craziness of Nik's musical journey of sidemen, solo records, and odd ducklings. Like us on FACEBOOK! https://www.htt...

DMA #101: "Metal Magic" by Pantera 20.11.2022 1:09:43
Let's get ourselves right back into the mix and mess up the mix and mix up the mess. Back in the early 80's, there was a band called Pantera and it featured the Abbot Brothers, Rex Brown, but not Phil Anselmo. It's well known to the metal community that this lineup of the band did get into the studio and release four albums, they refuse to re-release those indie albums they did. So, in true Depart...

DMA Classics: Ozzy Osbourne "Speak of the Devil" 31.10.2022 1:00:10
If you're a long time listener, you might have already heard this unless you didn't start at the very beginning. So, let's pretend this is a new episode to all? Back in 1982, after the untimely death of Randy Rhoads, Ozzy recruited a couple other guitarists and settled on Brad Gillis to do the recording of a set of Black Sabbath classics. We dig into this interesting album and give you all t...
DMA #99: "Through The Fire" by HSAS Featuring Neal Schon and Sammy Hagar 25.10.2022 58:24
At the end of 1983, something unique happened. Two masters of glam rock and glam pop rock got together and wrote a song. Those two greats would be Neal Schon of Journey and Sammy Hagar of Montrose, solo, and later Van Halen. Joined by a tight rhythm section, they took the show on the road and that's largely how they recorded the album as well. Join us! https://www.facebook.com/dmapodcast https://w...
DMA #98: Van Halen "III" 18.10.2022 1:10:02
Sometimes it's hard to believe how things just get lost. Here's a great example of that. Back in the middle 90's some really cool stuff was happening in the Van Halen camp and everybody thought something big was going down. Well what happened? Sammy was out, DLR was in then out, and Gary Cherone was IN. Come along as Nik details seeing the Cherone led Van Halen live and gives you the history of a...
DMA #97: Y Cant Tori Read's Self Titled Featuring Matt Sorum of Guns'n'Roses 10.10.2022 1:09:11
When we dig deep into the world of metal, sometimes we find things that don't always seem to fight just right. Picture, if you can, Matt Sorum playing in a band that sounds like Jem and the Holograms that's fronted by Tori Amos. If that's messed with your brains, awesome, because it sure as shootin' messed with mine. Join us!
