The Progressive Christian Movement rejects the wrath and holiness of God and replaces it with a "God of love" created in their own image. The Beatitudes as taught by Jesus challenges us to live contrary to the ungodly values of the culture all around us. "Happy are the pure in heart" causes us to confront the sins of our heart and adopt a lifestyle of purity.

Mercy is who God is. He displayed his greatest act of mercy toward us at the cross of Christ, when Jesus took our shame and guilt upon himself. God extends his undeserved mercy towards us and expects us in return to show that same mercy to others. Instead of retribution, we are to display mercy to a hostile and evil world. Jesus teaches us in this fifth beatitude to be merciful just as he was.

What are you passionate about? What are you hungry and thirsty for? In this fourth beatitude, Jesus promises to satisfy the person who is craving for something more in his or her life. He promises to meet the longing of your heart and draw you closer to Himself. This is Part 4 of my series, The Beatitudes, "Keys to successful Christian living."

The Church at Laodecia received the sternest rebuke from Jesus for being "lukewarm" in their relationship with him. They were blind to their true spiritual condition and Jesus urged them to repent and have an authentic relationship with him.

Jesus had nothing but praise for the faithful church at Philadelphia and because of their faithfulness, He promised to deliver them from the time of great tribulation that was about to come on the whole earth.

From the outside appearances, the church at Sardis looked beautiful, but Jesus confronted them and declared that they were dead. Sardis was a church filled with spiritually dead so-called Christians who had a form of godliness but denied the power of God.

The Church at Thyatira had greatly compromised their faith. They had allowed a false prophetess to seduce them with false teaching and an immoral lifestyle. Jesus urges them to repent or face certain judgment.

The Church in Smryna refused to bow their knee to the Roman Emperor and also refused to worship the local pagan deities. Their refusal resulted in great persecution . Jesus commends the believers in Smryna for their faithfulness in this second short letter to the seven churches in the Book of Revelation.

The letters to the seven churches in the Book of Revelation are vital for the Bride of Christ Today. Jesus is still crying out to his bride to repent and return to their First Love. The Church at Ephesus is a perfect model for us to learn from today. We need to wake up and stop going through the religious motions and rekindle our love for Christ again!
