The Conquering Truth
The Conquering Truth
Join us for a weekly discussion on living with discernment in this world. We’ll have discussions of how the gospel and the word of God ought to be applied to current events, the problems facing our society, the history of what God has done in the world, trends in the church and many other topics. The scriptures have a lot to say about those issues, and we see a lack of Biblical thinking and application to culture in many professing Christian circles today. We want to do our part to reverse that trend. Video episodes available at www.theconqueringtruth.com

Rituals and Habits: The Ways We Worship God Through Small Things 07.05.2022 1:07:04
Whether you call them habits or rituals, we organize our lives around a repeated series of actions that we repeat on a regular basis. We go through the same steps every morning when we wake up and every night before we go to bed. We come to the table in a particular way, maybe we talk, maybe we eat in silence. Church and worship are similar, as are family devotions. Once our routines are establish...
Practical Epistemology: How Can Anyone Know Anything? 30.04.2022 1:05:13
Read this question carefully: How do you know that you know what you think you know? That’s the question that epistemology asks in a nutshell. While everyone doesn’t spend the time to stop and think about the it, anyone who claims to know anything is already living out some answer to that question. And we want to make the argument that in this day and age of confusion over practically everything –...

Is Environmentalism a Religion? 16.04.2022 1:01:34
Many leaders in our culture tell us every day how we need to save the planet. What if this is more than wise stewardship, and is actually the message of a new religion? We compare the environmentalist movement with some widely held markers of what defines a religion. How to Think About Your Feelings 09.04.2022 1:12:58
Both emotion and reason play important roles in our lives, so much so that anyone who tries to eliminate either of them is working against God’s fundamental design. But while both are important, our God is a God of order and he has framed the world in such a way that emotion and reason each have their proper place. This issue is important because we live in a day and age of constant emotional mani...
In God’s Eyes, Is America Less Evil Than Russia? 02.04.2022 1:02:46
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there’s been a lot of talk about how evil Russia is, to the point where it can seem like they are unquestionably the most evil nation on earth. But, we’d like to push back against that idea a little bit - not for the purpose of arguing that Russia is righteous because they clearly are not, but instead, to ask, “Are we judging Russia by a diff...
Is Art Useful for Christians? 28.03.2022 1:14:00
If you ask ten different people what art is, you’re going to get ten different answers. We believe that there are fundamental objective principles that govern how we should think about and approach the subject. We also believe that as men have grown in their rebellion against God, they have twisted the very definition of art in a futile attempt to glorify themselves rather than their Creator. In t...
Shame: a Powerful Weapon for Both Good and for Evil 19.03.2022 1:02:01
No one likes to feel shame. And while we understand that shame is in the world because of the existence of sin, God has framed the world in such a way that shame can be used for good or for evil. The dictionary defines shame as “a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior”, but what happens when the church fails to proclaim the truth and al...
How Should God's Law Influence the Laws of America? 14.03.2022 1:06:38
If you were going to create a society from scratch, and you wanted it to have the best laws possible, how would you go about coming up with those laws? And what role would the Law of God play in determining what those laws should be? Would you just make the Old Testament laws the law of the land? Or would you skip those Old Testament laws that you feel no longer make sense and that perhaps don’t f...
We Watched the State of the Union So You Don’t Have To 05.03.2022 1:01:26
This week President Biden delivered his State of the Union address to Congress and the nation, outlining his view of where the nation is and where he wants to lead it. And while it’s often easier to ignore what was said on the grounds that you’ll almost certainly disagree with it, we think it’s worth taking the time to think about what was actually said, what it really means, and how it is intende...
How to Teach Your Kids to Love History 26.02.2022 1:25:27
If you are like most parents, history is one of the more intimidating subjects to teach your children. This is partly because most of us don't know that much about history ourselves. But it's more than that; history is so vast and deep that we're often not sure where to start or how deep we should go. We worry about what books to read and how to avoid bias and wrong worldviews. And while we certai...

The Ukraine Crisis - What Should Christians Think? 14.02.2022 1:07:55

What Did Paul Mean When He Said We Are Not Under the Law? 05.02.2022 57:01
It is very common to hear Christians reference Paul’s statement in Romans 6, “you are not under law but under grace” without any context or connection to the overall argument that Paul has been making throughout the book of Romans. And while there is no question that Paul’s statement is absolutely true, it is not a statement that we get to take and interpret however we want. But this is exactly ho...
What Does it Look Like to Exercise Faith in an Idol 31.01.2022 1:14:22
All around us, we see evidence of people who refuse to look at the truth. They are blinded by their passionate support for their side or their trust in the untrustworthy. Should this be surprising to Christians or should we understand, this is the normal state of the world? #SolaScriptura #SufficiencyOfScripture #TCT202 Production of Reformation Baptist Church of Youngsville, NC Hosts - Dan Horn,...

Jesus Christ Allowed Murderers to Kill Him. Should We? 08.01.2022 1:12:06
While a majority of Americans believe in the right to self-defense, there are some mainstream Christian teachers, such as John Piper, who make the argument that Christians should be willing to die rather than to take an assailant’s life. This view is particularly common among missionaries, with the story of Jim Elliot being commonly held up as an example. In this episode, we talk about the problem...
One Year of Podcasting - Why We Started the Conquering Truth 01.01.2022 1:03:44

When Must Christians Disobey? 25.12.2021 1:20:16
Even before the coronavirus pandemic, the topic of when you can disobey the government’s orders has been a controversial subject of discussion. It’s a complex subject because as Christians, we both desire and are commanded to obey God, and as sinners, we desire to disobey the authorities that God has placed over us. In this episode, we walk through different scenarios and situations and discuss th...
Santa Claus: An American Idol? 19.12.2021 1:04:18
It is practically impossible to think about Christmas without thinking about Santa Claus. In secular circles, Santa Claus is widely accepted, but what is more surprising is how accepted Santa Claus is within conservative and even Reformed Christian circles. And it is specifically the practice of telling your children that Santa Claus - the supernatural being who flies around the world distributing...
Fighting For Meaning: How the Church Lets the World Call Evil Good 11.12.2021 1:02:20

We’ll discuss how the war over words has been central to every major cultural battle of the last hundred years and how abortion, climate change , gay marriage, and transgender rights, were all fought and won by changing the definiti...
Are the Police Set Up to Fail? 04.12.2021 1:07:32
Abolishing or significantly reforming the police has been a topic of serious and contentious discussion in 2021 with very little common ground to be found between the opposing sides. In this episode, we attempt to answer some basic questions and answer from a biblical perspective. Are police even biblical? Should they be abolished? Whose job is it to protect people in a free society? How did the p...
Should the Church Speak to Swearing and "Lets Go Brandon?" 27.11.2021 1:04:51
"Let's Go Brandon!” has become a popular rallying cry among the political right. How did a euphemism for an obscene phrase directed specifically at President Biden come to be seen as acceptable speech among Christians? Is it because Donald Trump’s love of coarse language had such a big impact on our culture and our standards or do Americans just love crude discourse? For those who care about these...
