The Conquering Truth
The Conquering Truth
Join us for a weekly discussion on living with discernment in this world. We’ll have discussions of how the gospel and the word of God ought to be applied to current events, the problems facing our society, the history of what God has done in the world, trends in the church and many other topics. The scriptures have a lot to say about those issues, and we see a lack of Biblical thinking and application to culture in many professing Christian circles today. We want to do our part to reverse that trend. Video episodes available at www.theconqueringtruth.com

John MacArthur is Wrong about Eschatology: We Don’t “Lose Down Here” 10.06.2024 1:09:36
In 2021, John MacArthur preached a message to his church addressing how to think about Christianity’s decline in America. It starts out like this: “Hey, we tried. We honestly did. I think you did. I think I did. I mean I took interviews, I responded to questions I think we tried to have an influence on our nation last year.” He goes on to talk about how the world isn’t interested in Christianity a...
The Voice of the Martyrs Scandal - Our Response 03.06.2024 44:31
A series of exposé articles have just come out about Voice of the Martyrs. This is a group that we’ve discussed a great deal in the past, we we give our perspective on the recent revelations. We discuss Cole Richards, Jason Peters, ECFA, the dishonor of God, and the right way to clean all this up. Our previous videos on VOM https://persecutingthepersecuted.com/ Articles on VOM from the Roys Report...
Evolution is Wrong: Why Christians Should Teach Against It 23.05.2024 1:04:53
When you hear the word “Evolution” it is usually meant as a stand-in for Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, specifically the idea that all life on earth arose from natural processes beginning with “some warm little pond with all sort of ammonia and phosphoric salts,—light, heat, electricity present, that a protein compound was chemically formed”. As we discuss in the episode, Darwin was by no m...
The Christian Life is War: We Must Stop Playing Church 19.05.2024 1:27:06
When you think of the Christian life, do you immediately think of warfare? It’s all throughout scripture. So much of the Old Testament was about battles and soldiers, and armies waging war. And in the New Testament, we’re told that while the warfare continues, it’s a spiritual battle that we are to be fighting. But so often, we want to pretend that the spiritual battle shouldn’t disturb our comfor...
Is the Rapture Biblical? 06.05.2024 1:24:00
In this episode, we look at some of the texts that are used to build dispensational eschatology, and see whether they are being used correctly. Production of Reformation Baptist Church of Youngsville, NC Hosts - Dan Horn, Jonathan Sides, Charles Churchill and Joshua Horn Technical Director - Timothy Kaiser Theme Music - Gabriel Hudelson
Antisemitism: Has God Ordained the Jewish People’s Persecution? 29.04.2024 1:05:42
Antisemitism has been around for thousands of years. Starting with their conflicts with Rome and the destruction of Jerusalem by Titus, the restrictions against holding public office in the Byzantine empire, the Catholic church’s view for hundreds of years that the Jewish people carried blood guilt and deserved punishment for killing Jesus Christ, the violent pogroms in Russia in the late 19th and...
Betrothal vs Engagement: Why It Matters 22.04.2024 1:14:51
Many people are only familiar with the idea of betrothal from the Bible (or certain kinds of romance novels). Today, in Western cultures, serious relationships begin with dating, followed by engagement, and then eventually, maybe marriage. But from a Christian perspective, betrothal is an extremely important aspect of marriage, to the point where it is central to the gospel itself. In this episode...
Should a Christian Press Charges? 15.04.2024 1:22:53
What should we do when someone who calls themselves a Christian commits a crime against us? Take theft for example. Let’s say a brother comes to you and tells you that he had $1000 stolen from him by a deacon in the church or by the teenage son of the pastor, or just by another church member. Is it wrong for him to report it to the police? What about for domestic abuse? Child abuse? Sexual abuse?...
Triumph Not Rapture: Nebuchadnezzar’s Remarkable Dream 08.04.2024 1:21:16
Many Christians believe the Bible teaches that everything in the world will get worse and worse and then Christ will suddenly rapture his church away before pouring out his judgment on Israel and his enemies. But In Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar’s dream lays out when, how, and why Christ’s kingdom would begin before going on to triumph over all of Christ’s enemies, and God’s explanation does not involv...
God is Angry: Why His Wrath Matters 01.04.2024 1:21:55
Christians recognize that Christ took the wrath of God upon Himself on the cross. But Christ’s suffering and death did not do away with God’s wrath toward the unrighteous. And God still pours out his wrath on the earth to deal with man’s sin when He so chooses. One of the titles of God that many Christians have forgotten is the Lord of Hosts, which literally means the Lord of Armies. The idea is t...
How Not To Read the Bible: Common Errors in Hermeneutics 25.03.2024 1:26:39
We’re starting with a pretty straightforward question this episode: Why do different people read the Bible and come to different conclusions? Is it the people? Is it the Bible? Or is it how they read the Bible? The study of reading and interpreting the Bible is called hermeneutics, and while proper hermeneutical principles won’t keep you from making any mistakes, it’s helps keep you from making so...
Why a Christian Can’t Attend a “Transgender Wedding" 18.03.2024 1:16:46
In all the recent discussions about transgender weddings, one thing that didn’t come up that much is that a wedding is very different from other types of events. At a wedding, a covenant is made between three parties, both the husband and wife making an oath to God and vows to one another, and with the guests participating as witnesses and taking upon themselves a responsibility to hold both the h...
Why IVF is Wrong and Anti-Life 04.03.2024 1:02:18
IVF is getting a lot of attention this past week because of the Alabama Supreme Court ruling. For those who do not know, IVF refers to “in vitro fertilization”, and is a fertility procedure where multiple eggs are harvested from a woman, fertilized in a laboratory, and then one or more are selectively implanted back into her (or a surrogate’s) uterus. And all of this matters because the basic pro-...
How a Wrong View of History Obscures the Glory of God 26.02.2024 1:17:25
There are a few major ways to study history. One is the great man method which basically teaches that history is shaped by great men that rise up and lead and so studying those important men is the way to understand history. Another is to study history as a pattern of political or societal events where one cultural event by its nature leads to the next. Many modern educators completely reject the...
Why Altar Calls Are Wrong 19.02.2024 1:14:18
Altar calls are a common feature of church services around the world. But are they Biblical? What theology and history are they based on, and what do they teach converts and church members about the gospel? Production of Reformation Baptist Church of Youngsville, NC Hosts - Dan Horn, Jonathan Sides, Charles Churchill and Joshua Horn Technical Director - Timothy Kaiser Theme Music - Gabriel Hudelso...
If Debt is Slavery, Is it a Sin to be in Debt? 12.02.2024 1:22:09
The Bible says a lot about debt and slavery and teaches that the two are tightly connected, going so far as to say “the borrower is a servant (slave) of the lender”. And as Christians, when we read God’s word, it is our duty to take God’s commands and instructions seriously. But if you asked the average Christian if slavery is bad and then examined the amount of debt they have, would you come away...
Why Tim Keller (and Alistair Begg) are Wrong About Christian Winsomeness 05.02.2024 1:24:14
Tim Keller spent his life arguing that through winsomeness we can get people to accept the gospel. If the world sees Christians as good and kind, then the world would see the goodness of God and come to faith. He argued that if we are kind and thoughtful, then people will want to hear the gospel from us. And here’s the thing: if all you are talking about is what the life and conduct of a Christian...
Why Pentecostalism is Wrong: Tongues as a Sign of Unbelief 26.01.2024 1:19:04
Pentecostalism teaches that the gift and practice of speaking in unknown languages in the church today is a continuation of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts. But this view is fundamentally at odds with what scripture teaches about tongues. First and foremost, it misses what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14 where he explains to the church that the gift of tongues was a sign for unbelievers. Q...
How to Pray with Zeal 19.01.2024 1:44:41
Prayer is essential for the Christian life. But if we think about it incorrectly, we may never understand how to pray with zeal. We are better equipped to pray when we properly understand God’s authority and our proper relationship with him. Because God created man to glorify Him, and saved His people to do His work in the world and to labor for His name, our zeal in prayer is tied very tightly to...
Why Dispensationalism is Wrong 12.01.2024 1:39:41
Dispensationalism is one of the most popular views of eschatology (the “end times”) in American evangelical churches, particularly among Southern Baptists where it has been estimated that over 80% of Southern Baptist churches hold to some form of dispensational eschatology. And in case you’ve never heard the term dispensationalism, you’ve probably heard of the “rapture”, which is most commonly ass...
How God Created Men and Women Different 05.01.2024 1:47:58
Our world is very confused about the roles of men and women and this is particularly true in the United States and even in our more conservative churches. And while there is a lot of complexity in this topic, there are some basic scriptural commands and decrees of God that help frame the issue. In this episode we want to discuss how God created men and women to be different and how God is glorifie...
Should You Donate to the Salvation Army? 22.12.2023 1:10:45
You can’t go anywhere around Christmas without hearing the familiar sound of a Salvation Army volunteer ringing their bell beside the familiar red kettle asking for donations. But how many people know that the Salvation Army is a false church that teaches a falses gospel based on works righteousness and who believe that men can become perfect and completely without sin in this life? In this episod...
Why Is Mormonism Appealing to People? 15.12.2023 1:20:21
In this episode, we want to consider the Mormon religion and its place in the world. Founded almost 200 years ago, in the wake of the Second Great Awakening, Mormonism has grown into a worldwide religion with millions of members. And while we will spend some time talking about how it started and some of the stranger beliefs that the Mormon church teaches, we really want to focus on a few questions...
How Christ Established Order in the World 08.12.2023 1:33:21
Isaiah 9 famously proclaims how Christ came to establish and order his kingdom. In this episode we want to look at how extensive and expansive that order was and still is. In many ways the church has forgotten what the world was like before Christ came. Like fish who are so accustomed to being wet that they take water for granted, the church has lived within the kingdom of Jesus Christ from the mo...
Can a Christian Vote For Donald Trump? 01.12.2023 1:18:34
Over the past seven years, there have been a lot of headlines to this effect: “No Christian can justify voting for Donald Trump!” But often enough, the people writing these articles don’t really know God themselves. And so it’s easy to write them off. But here’s the real question: Could they be right anyway? For most of us, this isn’t just political theory. In the next year, we’re probably going t...
