The Spirit of a Christ will not lead us in lawlessness. Our flesh has been crucified. We are new creatures who need to think of ourselves in a new light.

God has foreordained the means as well as the end. We struggle to hold these realities in tension, but Scripture is clear that God, the First Cause, has ordered things to come about by second causes.

Paul says those who do the works of the flesh won’t inherit the kingdom of God? Is he now adding a works principle to the gospel? Well, no. He is reminding us that the Spirit is real and is at work in us.

What is the antidote to our flesh? Well, it’s not a what but a who. The Spirit of Christ, he is the one who can deal with our flesh.

We are all self-justifying, self-interested people. The bad news is that doesn’t get is very far. The good news is, there the gospel.

Paul does not back off his statement that we are free from the law in Christ; however, he also teaches us that we are therefore free to love one another.

Paul encourages the Galatians to go back to how they were previously running.

Paul reminds us once again that we are justified by faith alone, but he introduces the idea that that faith will bear the fruit of love.

WCF 5 lays out the doctrine of God’s Providence with an introductory statement reminding us of The Who, what, how, and why of God’s providence.

Here we find some of Paul’s harshest statements as he reminds us there can be no addition of even a single law to Jesus.

Paul turns to the Christian life, helping us understand what it means to live in the light of the gospel.

In giving us this summary of Jesus ministry around Gennesaret, Mark shows us that Jesus’s mercy is unending.

Paul dives back into the Old Testament, using the story of Sarah and Hagar to illustrate the difference between our works and God’s promise.

For a brief moment Paul breaks from his theological arguments to make an emotional appeal to the Galatians.

Paul provocatively equates enslavement to false gods and enslavement to the law of God as enslavement to elementary principles. This is a bold statement indeed.

In this section of the confession we are instructed on how man was before the fall.

The benefits of the gospel are not limited to our justification. They also include our adoption. Paul reminds us that because we have been adopted, we are now heirs of the most high God.

The truth of the resurrection is a glorious truth, declaring Jesus to be the Son of God and declaring to us that all that is needed for our salvation has been accomplished.

The atoning death of Christ is one of the central points of the gospel. This sermon reflects on the death of Christ in John 19.

The law has a function, leading us to Jesus. It’s a tutor. Once we are found in Christ, we no longer need the tutor to do the same job.

It’s easy to forget that the while the law and the promise accomplish different things they are contrary to each other. Rather they work together. The law drives us to Christ to receive the promise he secured.

Here the Westminster Divines introduce the work of creation reminding us, among other things, that the work of creation was a work not of one person of the godhead but of all three persons.

If the law is not the way to God, then why on earth was it given? This is the question Paul answers for us in today’s section of Galatians.

One brig question in Galatians is, how do the law and promise relate? Paul begins to answer that question, first reminding us that the latter covenant, the law, does not annul the previous covenant, the promise.

Under the law we stand cursed. The good news is that Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law.
