Part of the human condition is brokenness. We like to avoid that, but God wants us to go through our pain with Him. The message of brokenness is that we desperately need God in this life. Holding a grudge hurts us more than the other person. Being bound up in bitterness or unforgiveness also inhibits the work of God in our lives. Bible Reading: Mark 11-12 Scripture Verse of the Day: Mark 11:26

When this world's temptations seem hard to overcome, God's word invites us to rise above the flesh. Holiness is not a suggestion for those who are in Christ. And the battle of the flesh is not excused just because it is the "norm". The standards have been raised in the new covenant. Adultery happens in our hearts and with our eyes. But God Who called us and imputed His righteousness to us is able...

Plagues were something we did not think about much in our time before this past year. Suddenly the reality of the need to protect ourselves and to "avoid like the plague", well, the plague of COVID, changed our world. Battling unbelief is key to obtaining God's promises. We get to choose what we believe in, but it will be a fight. Bible Reading: Mark 9-10 Scripture Verse of the Day: Mark 9:23 "But Jesus said to him, 'If You can? All things are possible for the one who believes.'"

Looking backward does not help us move forward. The past does not define us, but it can inform us on how best to live in the present and to plan for the future. Security is a big stumbling block in an uncertain world. When we spend time worrying about our safety, we need to remember that God is for us and He has our back. How do you handle it when you suffer because of someone in church who spoke against you? Ever dealt with that? I thought so. Sometimes persecution from within the flock can cause us to become disillusioned and to ultimately question God. But rather than questioning God, perhaps we should question our expectations. The outward is a reflection of the inward condition. We can try to dress up the outside, but the inside remains unchanged unless we let God do His work on us. Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 16-20 Scripture Verse of the Day: 1 Samuel 16:7b

If we don't do things God's way, we cannot expect blessings. Like the definition of insanity, doing things the same way over and over again yet expecting a different result, we have a right mind when we do things God's way. Bible Reading: Exodus 5-8 Scripture Verse of the Day: Exodus 8:1

The defining verse from 1 Corinthians 13 is one most weddings have read, yet few marriages live out these words. But as we seek to understand what God meant by "love", we will approach love as sacrificial and unconditional, and all about others rather than ourselves. Traditions. Some are good, some not so much. But traditions should never trump the authority of God's word. Bible Reading: Mark 7-8 Scripture Verse of the Day: Mark 7:15

Everyone wants to be considered wise – I mean, no one wants to be considered a fool, right? But the truly wise show it by their actions in abstaining from evil. They also understand that they have no wisdom on their own. Bible Reading: Job 27-28 Scripture Verse of the Day: Job 28:28

If we need help, we need to ask for it. Like the proverbial person needing rescue who refuses the life saver, we need to be humble enough to recognize our need and to take it. Bible Reading: Psalms 34-36 Scripture Verse of the Day: Psalm 34:4-5

Happy Easter! God's rescue has made all things new. Have you accepted His gift of salvation? Whether we know we need rescuing or not, our condition has a solution in Jesus Christ Who came and died for all, then rose again. Bible Reading: Jeremiah 13-18 Scripture Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 15:21

Truth is the defining characteristic of our faithfulness to God. When we compromise our values, we give God a bad name. Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 11-15 Scripture Verse of the Day: 1 Samuel 12:24

When our culture turns away from the things of God, it is the fear of God that keeps our hearts in the right place. Bible Reading: Exodus 1-4 Scripture Verse of the Day: Exodus 1:21

Sometimes we can struggle about our worth. We can try to find our significance in a position we hold. But God is the One Who places us where He wants us to be and every part of the body of Christ is equal in value. Bible Reading: 1 Cor. 11-12 Scripture Verse of the Day: 1 Corinthians 12:18
