What a week. Controversy, new coaches, eras ending, retiring players, goal (non) reviews, and the top 7 are locked in. Leaves a lacklustre final week of finals, but what an entertaining year it was. 

This week we talk about getting boned in a one-city town, why you probably don't trade a Coleman medallist for funsies, a new leader in the Scarlett-Silvagni Medal, and the exciting run home to finals. The AFL has accidentally scheduled a tremendous last two rounds, the soccer is over, and we should scrap the bounce.

This week we discuss tanking on the highest difficulty, online nuffery, form slumps and accidentally manifesting one of the greatest debuts by a Key Defender in recent memory. This week there are two pretty obvious vote getters and some very unlucky ones, as the top spot gets challenged once again.

This week we talk squirrel tackles, concussion drama and subsequent punishments, and a return to a discussion about the best defender in the AFL. West Coast won and we barely cover it, Collingwood lost and it's just a blip. We have a shop now if you want some silly sport merch.

This week on The Back Pocket, two players share nine votes as the best defender from round 19, Jack gets outed for having a secret least favourite player, and everyone is a bit too tired to be recording this.

This week we talk conditions for the next Ashes test, the state of the St Kilda Football Club, what makes the GWS Giants feel like a real and tangible footy team and how much fun it is seeing Ross Lyon back to normal. A disgruntled callout of another podcast and it's award, as well as a new contender emerging for this year's medal as ten votes sees one player surge into third position.

Round Seventeen of the AFL Mens season is over and a few more teams have been ruled out of the running for finals, and some of the best defenders in the comp really showed their worth on the weekend. How much difference does sacking a coach really make, should teams be able to play home games at home (controversial opinion), and what difference does a sleeve make? It's the Back Pocket.

Welcome back to the real AFL season, with a full nine games being played in Round Sixteen, and we still have no idea what the ladder is going to look like. Last years grand finalists played out a painful draw, Port bombed one after the siren, and Melbourne continue to sell wins to the AFL. The bye rounds are over and thank goodness for that. Collingwood are good and free kicks are funny, Joel Selwood is at the cricket and that makes us feel safe, West Coast are so bad we talked about them when we didn't even mean to and the ladder is still super close well past the half way mark of the year. This week we saw an Easter Monday massacre. Are St Kilda good? Are Port good now? Who is the most underrated defender in the AFL? Can Ross Lyon coach? Who is raising their knee in the ruck contest? We won't answer any of those questions with any clarity, but we sure will recap round four!

As we all anticipated, St Kilda are undefeated on top, and Geelong are winless on the bottom. We talk coaching pressure, who goes where, and who was unlucky to miss out. We had Gabba-level technical difficulties this week, so look forward to the abrupt ending.

Alastair and Jack unpack Round Two of the 2023 AFL Season. A few surprise teams are 0-2, and a few even more surprising teams are 2-0. Crazy Bevo takes his crazy to weird new places, the AFL remains consistently inconsistent on concussion, and rules being introduced on a Tuesday after Round Two.

Round One of 2023 is over, and out come the overreactions. Collingwood are flag favourites, Brisbane are written off, and Freo can't win with Fyfe forward. Join Jack and Alastair for the Round One Scarlett Silvagni Medal votes for Defender of the Year, as well as some coherent points mixed in with ramblings as the lads muse on the storylines that arose from Round 1.

Last episode before the season commences! A few pre season predictions, a game of who would win, and some last minute observations before the 2023 AFL season starts.
