Luke 9:57-62 One of our biggest temptations is to follow Jesus as efficiently as possible; we prefer to follow Jesus without making major sacrifices. But Jesus tells these would-be followers to make him more important than home and family. What is the one thing you find yourself not willing to sacrifice?

Luke 17:11-19 Too often we take God’s saving and healing grace for granted. In this parable it is the outsider that returns to Jesus, recognizing the significance of what he has done for him. We cannot take our faith for granted but must realize what the cross means for us, and when we do we will live differently. Rarely does meeting Jesus look like what we think it will.

John 8:2-11 When a group of Pharisees confront Jesus with an adulterous woman we find that when we meet Jesus in our sin, he meets us with compassion. That being said, after experiencing compassion from Jesus, we see the woman also instructed to change her ways and sin no more. With Jesus’ compassion there also comes a conviction to repent and return to the path God has for us.

Matthew 3:13-17 John sees Jesus as greater than himself, so in his view Jesus doesn’t need John’s water baptism, but John needs Jesus’ Holy Spirit and fire baptism. However, for Jesus, identifying with the penitent community was a vital piece of his role as the Messiah who submits.

Revelation 3:14-20 God blesses all of us in a number of different ways, but are we using his blessings to partner with Him in furthering his kingdom? We begin to compromise our Christianity when we choose to use our gifts/resources to further our kingdom or instead of God’s.
