Taiiku Podcast

I tweeted earlier that all the Manga In Your Ears episodes were done and edited, then I went and recorded another one, so all but one are recorded. Also I still have three Taiiku episodes to edit, RIP me. This episode, we're talking about Beck and Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, both published by Kodansha. The songs you heard at the beginning of the episode were "Hit in the USA" by Beat Crusaders,...

As I edit this episode, the White Sox are playing the Orioles, and it really feels like some terrible exercise in futility to root for either of these teams to win. Also I delayed on editing this long enough that I could use the actual Kimetsu no Yaiba OP! Hooray? This episode, we're talking about Hico Yamanaka's The Prince in His Dark Days published by Kodansha and Koyoharu Gotōge's Kimetsu no Ya...

As I get back to posting episodes, I can get back to randomly rambling on these posts, which I've honestly missed. I don't know who reads this or who cares, but here I am, rambling about Eloy Jimenez hitting below expectations and having bad defense. White Sox baseball looks up. This episode, we're talking about Yuki Urushibara's Mushishi and Haruko Ichikawa's Land of the Lustrous, both published...

We're back after a long absence. It feels like it's been forever, but also no time at all because I've just been recording along while the website was in stasis the whole time. Got a bit of a somewhat dated backlog to start off with, but after that, it's content as usual! This episode, we're just talking about our favorite manga of 2018! That song you heard at the top of the episode was " United S...

We're back on the podcasting microphone! It's been a bit, our website is finally all the way up to function and such, and new episodes can finally be released. For our return, it's our annual special Top Anime of 2018 episode! I brought, as always, my co-host Chris ( @gokuffy ) as well as special guests Patz ( @PatzPrime ) and Helen ( @WanderinDreamr ). It's over three hours of fun! This should ha...

The Taiiku Podcast website is back baby! After much working, procrastinating, and chatting, Camellia (@wildpomme) has brought us back to life after our last host decided they had enough of this hosting business or whatever. This is out Anime Secret Santa post for this year, where me and Chris talk about anime some other anime bloggers / podcasters suggest to us, curated by the Reverse Thieves. Any...

The Chicago Bears are the champions of the NFC North! It has been a long journey toward relevancy for the Bears, but we're finally here again. It's been too long. Now the White Sox gotta. This episode, I've got Chris ( @gokuffy ) and Chris ( @antoniuspius ) continuing our Kurosawa watch, this time with Seven Samurai. Then Ink ( @AnimatedInk ) and Basil ( @itsbasiltime ) join Chris and I to talk ab...

The hot stove, just before the winter meetings, is not something that should be touched. Paul Goldschmidt to the Cardinals? Nathan Eovaldi back with the Red Sox? Manny Machado and Bryce Harper to the White Sox??? I can only dream... But the first two definitely happened. I live off these rumors. This episode, we're talking about Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind published by Viz...

I had a whole thing written, but then I accidentally closed the tab before saving anything and lost it all, whoops. Anyway, the Bears are good, Iowa State football and basketball seem to be good, and the White Sox should do anything interesting this offseason. This episode, we're talking about Kaori Ozaki's the gods lie. published by Vertical and Yupechika's Satoko and Nada published by Seven Seas...

It's hot stove season, and my dude Hyun-Jin Ryu has accepted the qualifying offer to stick with the Dodgers for at least one more year. The Cubs might trade Kris Bryant? The White Sox might sign Manny Machado and/or Bryce Harper? Who knows! Anyway, this episode I have Chris ( @gokuffy ) on to continue out Kurosawa series with Ikiru. Then Ink ( @AnimatedInk ) joins me to talk about Harukana Receive...

Baseball season is over, the Dodgers suffered a heartbreaking "gentleman's sweep" (sort of, but not really, an 18-inning marathon can basically be won by anyone on luck. more than usual!), and the offseason has already started. I can't wait for the winter meetings. Rick Hahn, please do something. This episode, we're talking about Hajime Segawa's Tokyo ESP published by Vertical Comics and Gengoroh...

The Dodgers are headed back to Milwaukee with a 3-2 lead and nothing bad will happen don't ruin this for me podcast audience. This episode, we're talking about Natsume Ono's House of Five Leaves and Tony Valente's Radiant, both published by Viz Media. The song you heard at the top of the episode is "Sign of Love" by immi from the House of Five Leaves anime. As always, you can find me on Twitter @I...

MLB playoffs are here, and the White Sox are of course not in it. My NL team, the Dodgers, are struggling. So here's to rooting for the Brewers in the World Series, as that would be more fun than the Astros again or the Red Sox again again again again again again again again again (I think that is the correct number of agains). The sports anime we're talking about this episode is the sports anime-...

I did not get this episode out before the anime aired, but that's ok! The manga still exists, and is probably better than the anime because it isn't on HIDIVE. This episode, we're talking about Yumi Unita's Bunny Drop published by Yen Press and Nio Nakatani's Bloom Into You published by Seven Seas. That song you heard at the top of the episode was "Sweet Drop" by Puffy AmiYumi and the song you hea...

The White Sox could avoid 100 losses this year, so some things are good. This episode, we're doing a special episode on Douman Seiman's The Voynich Hotel published by Seven Seas. It is a manga I do not think my regular podcast co-hosts would enjoy. So I bring on some good friends instead. The song you heard at the top of the episode is " Mayor Bloomberg (Giant Margaritas) " by Awkwafina. As always...

Football season has started, the NFL is still a terrible organization, and the Chicago Bears couldn't pull it off against the greatest quarterback to play, Aaron Rodgers. Sigh. This episode, we're talking about Shigeru Mizuki's Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths published by Drawn and Quarterly and Akiko Higashimura's Tokyo Tarareba Girls published by Kodansha. That song you heard at the top of the e...

This is the first of hopefully a series of episodes about the One Piece manga with Patz and Grant! This time covering from the beginning of One Piece through the end of Alabasta. Grant, as you may know, is tweeting two tweets per chapter in this thread , and it's fascinating watching it unfold. The song you heard at the beginning of the episode was "We Are" by by Hiroshi Kitadani, the opening for...

The White Sox have a winning record in August and have taken the season series against the Red Sox. Baseball is good. This episode, we're talking about Hokusei Katsushika, Takashi Nagasaki, and Naoki Urasawa's Master Keaton published by Viz and Ryoko Ikeda's Claudine published by Seven Seas. The song you heard at the top of the episode was the opening theme from the Master Keaton anime I think? I'...

Crazy Rich Asians is...everything. It's just everything. Please go see it. This episode, we're talking about Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Mobile Suit Gundam: the Origin published by Vertical and Satoshi Mizukami's Spirit Circle published by Seven Seas. The song you heard at the top of the episode is " Old Town " by Say Sue Me. As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK , and my co-hosts Helen (...

Crazy Rich Asians has a preshow coming up this Wednesday, then wide in a week. I have been waiting for however long it is since I've read that a movie adaptation was in the works. I have every so often opened up the Wikipedia page in hopes that another cast announcement was made and clicked through all the people to see who they were, even if I already knew who they were. My body is ready for Craz...

I went to my only White Sox game of the year, since I moved to LA and they only play in Angel Stadium within reasonable distance now. I didn't realize how nice it was to have Kauffman Stadium, Target Field, and Guaranteed Rate Field all within six hours of each other until moving away. But on the flip side, it's way less humid here, and thus usually more livable even at disgustingly high temperatu...

I was recently at Anime Expo, and I ran a panel highlighting some shonen and seinen manga written or drawn (but usually both) by women. Here's the audio from that panel. Listen

The White Sox won a game today, so it was a good day. This time we're talking about Milk Morinaga's Girl Friends and Chii's The Bride Was a Boy, both published by Seven Seas. The song you heard at the top of the episode is " Born This Way " by Lady Gaga. As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK , and my co-hosts Helen ( @WanderinDreamr ) and Apryll ( @manjiorin ) on Twitter at those pl...

I just watched the White Sox give up three runs on two wild pitches and a walk, but Korea still beat Germany in the group stage of the World Cup and that can never be taken away from me. This episode, Patz and I are talking about Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia published by Viz Media. Unlike usual episodes, Patz and I just dug into everything up to the school festival stuff, so spoilers abound....

I should edit this episode...after Pride Month...because I have good foresight and planning and such. Also the Lakers are making a super team, and Golden State is like, "Hold my beer." This episode, we're talking about Fumi Yoshinaga's Antique Bakery published by DMP, Nagata Kabi's My Solo Exchange Diary published by Seven Seas, and Inio Asano's Solanin epilogue published by Viz Media. The song yo...
