In this sermon we focus on the scene where Mary anoints Jesus' head and feet with expensive perfume and Judas rebukes her for wasting money. The contrast of reaction between these two people in light of Monday and Tuesday's events reveals the kind of follower they really were.

On these two days Jesus shows through his words and actions that he is bringing a new kind of kingdom. Those who thought they were people of faith actually didn't get him at all. He forced people to look at their own lives, not just their professions of faith.

In Romans 8 it describes the Holy Spirit interceding for our inarticulate groans. But if God knows what we need, and the Spirit intercedes, what is our role in prayer?

"I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”"

Do you not know, brothers and sisters—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives?

"What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!"

Praying for the Persecuted Church

Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
