Stories of Hope

Often we cannot change the stuff we are concerned about. But lets do what we can when we can. Even if its just as simple as having a yarn.

Maryam Zafari was born in Iran and trained as a lawyer.  She immigrated to Canada 14 years ago and has worked with indigenous people in Canada who have been separated from families as children.  She has a brother with cognitive challenges and she has a deep empathy and understanding of disability and vulnerability.  She moved to Australia 5 months ago and now works for the Salvation Army in Villaw...

Over the last 12 months the Salvos have been involved at a government housing complex in Villawood.  Great partnerships have been established and we now have a variety of programs and engagement based out of the community room there.  This is the story.

We all find it hard to believe that we are OK at times, faced with stupid things we do and our own head telling us we are no good.  How do we start believing we are loved and gonna be OK?  

I was the bouncer at the jumping castle at a Christmas event for kids with special needs.  What happened next was a painful, but beautiful encounter with a ten year old boy and his family.    

Andy Steel was doing well, but he knew something was missing from his life.  He followed a path that has led to Bike repairs, prisons and a dedication to the Salvos. 

Anthony has struggled with addiction for many years but is on the journey towards recovery.  In this episode we get an insight into how friendship plays a part in this journey and how plumbing and camping brought us together.

As is often the case, I am disappointed by what promises to be spectacular.  I needed a few friends to help me believe again.

So my lovely wife Sue hates the Kazoo jingle I used in my first trial episode.  She has made it clear that living together with Covid19 restrictions is hard enough without excessive kazoo playing.  HOWEVER, she did not mention my new Ukulele.  So here is the new jingle with a Uke as the primary instrument  .... and a story.
