In a city filled with coaches and counselors, 360 reviews, and personality assessment tests, NYers could make the case, and often do, that we’re incredibly self-aware. But the truth is we’re prodigies when it comes to self-deception. Supplication is that aspect of prayer where the person praying entrusts God with his circumstances and his entire self.

Are you attitudinally grateful?  King David is... and its from this place that he entrusts God to deal with two things he cannot control on his own; his character and his enemies.

If you’re a Christian, confession is never about your condemnation, it’s always about your coming of age. Through confession, David is inviting God to shape him into the person God’s already declared David to be.

Great writers Now, writers are known to have a "love/hate" relationship to their craft, but they’re dependent on writing to know themselves. Christians, have a similar relationship to prayer, its hard, but we’re dependent on prayer because it's in and through prayer where experience both awe and intimacy with God, and you come to know your self.

This week we learn from guest preacher, Steve Ko, as we reflect on Psalm 41.

Today we have a parable that starts out laughable but turns deadly serious. Jesus teaches us that if you don’t have a relationship with God based on forgiveness, which inclines you toward forgiveness and reconciliation when the opportunity present itself than you might not have the relationship with God you think you do.

Oftentimes when we’re looking to learn and grow we look for the right program, coach, podcast, etc. Jesus comes alongside us and asks “Have you looked at our hearts, and ask ourselves the questions, “Am I ready, willing and able to grow? And, if not, how come? 

 At the end of our story in Acts 16, Paul gives us a powerful demonstration of citizenry! Because his primary citizenship is in heaven, Paul is liberated to be the very best citizen on earth. He’s free to be both Rome’s most loving critic and its most hopeful contributor. 

Acts 16 shows us that the gospel offers something far better than some false sense of control. In a world of fragile power and fleeting happiness, it provides liberation, opportunity, and joy that transforms our reality.

God's invitation into His family is surprisingly wide, wonderfully welcoming, and that the invitation has been received and accepted, can be visibly verified. 

This past weekend we celebrated my nephew's birthday and the day before, we sat and listened as his parents told the story of his birth. What took place on the day of his birth? Why do we do this? So he can now place his own life within the context of a greater story? Yes. So, he can have specific details and learn about the hopes and fear, joys and struggles, the sacrifices of parenting? Yes....

This passage is often thought of as “the Great Commission” because in it we see that God is not just sending his people on mission, but in Jesus, he is himself on mission.

The Gospel doesn't just say 'hope again!' With the risen Christ there is now an unshakeable foundation, for a deeper and more resilient life, than we previously imagined.

Today we’re looking at Acts 8, and in this passage we discover see two men desiring God’s salvation; one is there to offer it, the other is there to receive it, because God is there to provide it. This is a story of how the gospel changed both their lives. 

With this week's message, we'll reflect on the same passage as last week but from a different vantage point. Unlike last week, where we hovered about 2 inches over the text. This week, I’d like to take a different approach and take the 10,000 foot view, so that we can reflect more specifically on one major theme of this passage, Courage.

During this season we're laying aside certain habit or behaviors to better know ourselves and our relationship with God. This week, we're laying aside cowardice and taking up courage in the face of opposition.

In this passage a person is discovered wanting, and because of the witness of both Peter and John, he is brought to worship. Discover why "our playing small doesn't serve the world" and boldly wanting, witnessing, can lead to bold worship of God.

Today's message is on prayer, but we’re not going to discuss how to hold your hands, or delve into formula of the Lord's Prayer. We're going to talk about the "guts of prayer," where prayer puts gravel in your belly and strengthen you as you pray "in the Valley. "

Psalm 84 isn't a story self-reliance. To move "from strength to strength” is to move from one degree of dependence on God to another.

A key component to spiritual health?  Knowing where you would long to be, in order to determine where you're actually at. The psalmist's acknowledgement in Psalm 84:1-4 that he longs for the "courts of the Lord" is a confession of how far away he actually is from the living God.

According to Acts 2, "Christian Community" is so radical and so reasonable that it causes everyone to reflect and repent.
