Praise the Lord who has stooped down to save sinners.

This passage gives something of a creed, a simple statement of faith, about the person and work of Jesus Christ. You are called to accept and believe these great truths about the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Deacons are servants of the church who care for the physical and mercy needs of the congregation. They may be women as well as men.

Christ gave elders to care for the church, therefore pray for men of godly character to serve as elders.

Keep your eyes on Jesus, being wary of the sins of immodesty and disrespect. Rather, worship with modesty and respect.

Psalter selection: 80. This meditation explores two familiar metaphors for God's people: sheep under the Good Shepherd and a vine brought out of Egypt. Both find their fulfillment in Jesus who calls Himself the Good Shepherd and the True Vine, and the psalm's refrain 'cause your face to shine and we shall be saved' expresses the promise of restoration in Christ.

With hands stretched out to heaven, and wary of the sins of anger and doubt, pray that the Lord of heaven would help.

Prayer is made effective by the work of Jesus Christ, therefore, pray with confidence.

God desires all men to be saved, therefore pray all kinds of prayer for all kinds of people to come to salvation.

Psalter selection: 79A. This deep lament over the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem highlights the concept of atonement, the payment for sins foreshadowed in Old Testament sacrifices and fulfilled in Christ the Lamb of God. The psalm teaches that God's righteous judgment and the atonement He provides through Jesus both serve to glorify His holy name.

Christ uses church discipline to rescue the spiritually shipwrecked; so take up the good fight of the faith by humbly embracing this gracious provision.

Jesus gives the ministry of the Word for the building up of the saints, therefore take advantage of the preaching and teaching offered by the church.

By faith in Christ and by a good conscience, fight the good fight.

God chooses God's people according to God's plan. And because God is good and He does good, His plan is good and His people He will make good.

Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Glory to God in the highest!

Psalter selection: 78C. This meditation draws out two Old Testament types of Christ from Psalm 78: the rock struck by the rod of judgment that gushed life-giving water, identified by Paul as Christ in 1 Corinthians 10, and the manna from heaven, which Jesus claims as Himself saying 'I am the bread of life.' The psalm warns against forgetting God's provision.

Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. Trust in Christ's love and work to give you the hope of salvation that Paul had, and to give confidence to serve Christ as Paul did.

If you get the law wrong, you'll get the gospel wrong, too. (David Murray) Therefore, get the law right.

Hold to the truth and reject heterodoxy. In other words, teach no other doctrine.

Receive God's grace, mercy and peace through the ministry of Christ in His church.

Psalter selection: 77A. This meditation traces how Asaph intentionally remembers, meditates on, and considers God's mighty redemptive acts, especially the Exodus, to find confidence in present trouble. Because God does not change, what He did in the past assures us of His faithfulness today and foreshadows the greatest redemption in Christ.

"I will build My church." Christ's promise provokes your response.

Jesus' words help you understand the absolute necessity of Jesus's death and resurrection. He calls you to deny yourself, to deny Satan. He calls you to follow Him. Therefore, repent of your sins and believe that He is the Christ, the one who died on the cross for your sin and who rose from the dead for your salvation.
