Still Buffering

Disclaimer: Yes, we know we had an audio goof this week and Sydnee and Rileigh sound different than they usually do. We're sorry if it affects your listening, and we promise it won't happen again!   Rileigh was unaware of the magical, glorious, internet world of StrongBad until Candlenights this year, so Teylor knew it was their duty to rectify this travesty. Now that Rileigh is significantly more...

Sydnee finally discovered the key to ending the year-long Groundhog Day situation we've all been in: we all must finally watch Schitt's Creek. So, we all three have done our part, and this is us convincing you to do the same for like 45 minutes. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! This is truly the greatest gift Rileigh could have received in 2020: the chance to force her siblings to listen to not one, but two whole Taylor Swift albums and then talk about them with her. Also, Sydnee and Teylor were completely unaware of all the theories and canon surrounding Taylor and her music, so we HAD to get all up in that too. In a twist of Still Buffering tradition to deeply discuss one piece of media, we've watched all four iterations of the story of The Grinch, and we're making them battle it out to see which one is truly superior. One thing we know for sure, though, is the musical one with Matthew Morrison is DEFINITELY in last place.  Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock...

In the Smirl family, there are very few holiday traditions, but watching Christmas Vacation and knowing every single word is the most important of the ones we do have. But also, it's 2020, so we have too much time on our hands and it has us thinking (probably too hard) about all the deeper societal implications of the characters and their families so....let's get into THAT.   Music: "Baby You Chan...

Sadly, there is no new installment of the Still Buffering classic Christmas tale, The Christmas Prince, this year. BUT! We have a twice as special episode this holiday season, because we're talking about not one, but TWO Princess Switch movies, starring not one, not two, but THREE characters played by Vanessa Hudgens. It's...a lot. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this...

2020 hasn't gifted us much, but it did bring us a reboot of one of Teylor's favorite childhood cartoons: Animaniacs! We watched some old classics and some new hits, and we're ready to talk about those crazy, um...dogs? Cats? Mice?  Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Become a member at https://maximumfun.org/joinbuffering

Well, Sydnee finally realized what she has done in bringing Jewel to the discussion table this week. Upon Rileigh's first-ever listen and Teylor's first re-listen in forever, the siblings dive right into all the angsty, earnest lyrics we love from Jewel, as well as all the songs and hits that don't exactly stand the test of time. Also, bonus secret track? Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouv...

The world's current favorite game featuring those lil' astronauts that murder each other while trying to do their lil' tasks has finally made it to our show! Rileigh has been obsessed with this game for months of quarantine now, so she's finally forcing her whole family to play with her. It's apparently the unofficial Buffy appreciation week, at least, Stacey Abrams said so, so it must be true. 2020 is the only year in which we could long to live in a fictional serial killer's universe, and here we are. The Scream movies taught us all the rules of scary movies and exactly how to break them, so it only fits to wrap up spooky season with this series. What's your favorite scary movie? Well, the day has come. I guess we all knew we would end up here at some point, right? None of us thought it would happen in the first year, but I guess it was its time. We're diving head first into the world of sexy, sparkling, baseball playing vampires, and Teylor has never experienced any of it, until NOW.  Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus...

It's time for some bloody, spooky, demonic, teen horror fun! Also lots of Adam Brody appreciation...apparently. This is NOT a good fish, bug, or cereal podcast. If you are looking for podcasts on those subjects, you will be sorely disappointed by this podcast. However, this is a great podcast about young adult media throughout the ages, so we can do that for you? Beverly Hills, what a thrill! It's time for Sydnee to take us back to one of her...more unique teenage obsessions that she maybe just loved because the dad wore his pants too high like our dad did? Even though it's a very early 2000s classic, Rileigh has always loved the fetch-est teen movie of all time: Mean Girls! Get in losers, we're going podcasting! As our first journey into the world of manga here on Still Buffering, Teylor is introducing us to one of their favorite stories from their college years: The Bug Boy! Also, we're introducing yet another iteration of our show, "To Bils and Uh Tedd!"  Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! As a first in Still Buffering history, both Rileigh and Sydnee are sharing their excitement over a show they both loved that Teylor has never seen: Veronica Mars! She's everyone's favorite angsty teen private investigator, and her show has spanned all of our generations...but can we talk about the ending of that reboot though? Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show...

The only thing keeping Rileigh's brain at peace these past few weeks of quarantine has been the surprise Taylor Swift Album: "folklore." So of COURSE she's going to force her sisters to listen to it with her. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Before there were teen heartthrobs and boy bands and scrunchies...there were our favorite cartoons! One of Teylor's has always been the story of that lil toaster that could, but it's actually a little bit darker than any of us remembered. We all know and love the classic Babysitter's Club stories from many decades ago, but what if they were even better, cooler, smarter, and way more diverse and inclusive? Netflix answered that question, and we want to talk about it! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! When a young Rileigh was in middle school, all she wanted was to be in a show choir like the one full of thirty-year-olds on her favorite show: Glee. The band we all know and love for its nerd rock aesthetic and its hits like "Buddy Holly" and "Say it Ain't So" was a crucial moment in music media for both Sydnee AND Teylor, so it seems about time to indoctrinate Rileigh into the fanbase, right?
