Psalm 1 introduces us to the entire book of Psalms by showing us two paths of life: the path of the righteous and the path of the wicked. The path of the righteous leads to blessing and the path of the wicked to judgment. Which path will you choose?

2 Timothy 2:14-26 gives Timothy his core aim to be able to stand before God unashamed of the quality of his word. That will require Timothy to keep his focus on God, His Word, and growing in godliness, rather than becoming overly concerned with his opponents there in Ephesus. 

2 Timothy 2:8-13 brings us Part 2 of Paul's charge to Timothy to be a good soldier of Jesus Christ. He will do so by remembering Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in Paul's gospel.

In 2 Timothy 2:1-7, Paul charges Timothy to be a good soldier of Christ Jesus. This will require Timothy to find his strength in grace of Jesus, entrust the Word to faithful men, and maintain whole-hearted devotion to his commander, Jesus Christ. 

2 Timothy 1:8-18

We begin our study in 2 Timothy 1:1-7 as Paul writes his final letter from prison in Rome to his beloved son in the faith, Timothy. Paul gives us a great example of someone who is deeply invested in the faith of a fellow believer and desires to see them continue to grow spiritually. 

Paul ends his letter of 1 Timothy with a final charge to Timothy, the man of God, to fight the good fight of the faith and take hold of the eternal life that he has been called to. In these instructions we find what it takes to be a man or a woman of God.

In 1 Timothy 6:3-10 Paul comes full circle in his argument against those teaching a "different doctrine." The hinge of this whole passage is verse 6, "But godliness with contentment is great gain." We find that contentment is a surprising difference maker in whether or not we follow God's truth or try to substitute it with our own version of the truth.

This Resurrection Sunday we look to Luke 24:1-12 and explore the resurrection of Jesus Christ and why the resurrection matters. Thank God for the empty tomb!

1 Timothy 5:1-6:2, bring us Paul's instructions regarding showing honor to different subgroups within the church. As the household of God, we should treat one another with mutual respect and love in all of our interactions. By doing so, we ultimately honor God the Father.

1 Timothy 4:11-16 brings us Paul's standing orders for Timothy in Ephesus. He has a tough task of overcoming opposition to bring the church into greater health. He can do so through setting the example, teaching the Word, using his gifts, and keeping a close watch on himself and the teaching.

In 1 Timothy 4:6-10, Paul charges Timothy to be a good servant of Christ Jesus who focuses on truth, godliness, and God. This will require maximum effort on Timothy's part. It is the same with us. To grow and mature in Christ will require our maximum dedication, energy, and commitment. And the reward of growing closer to God is worth every ounce of energy invested in it!

In 1 Timothy 4:1-5 Paul lets Timothy know that the Spirit had warned them that false teaching would arise. And it is important to know what false teaching is, where it comes from, and how it gets here. Our goal is to maintain a good conscience by devotion to God's Word.

In 1 Timothy 3:14-16 Paul puts an exclamation point on the spiritual identity of the church calling it the "household of God," the "church of the living God," and a "pillar and buttress of the truth." Let's explore the wonder of each of these descriptions to enable us to see the church the way God sees the church.

Today we get to explore the role of deacons. We first look to Acts 6 to see the roots of the deacon office and what a deacon does before moving on to 1 Timothy 3:8-13 to see who God says is qualified to serve in that vital role in His church.

1 Timothy 3:1-7 gives us the basic qualifications for who can lead God's church. We find that godly character is the greatest gatekeeper on the path to ministry. But the man must also possess a desire to serve in the role and an ability to teach God's Word to God's people. Thank God that he is not silent on how he intends his church to be led.

1 Timothy 2:8-15 brings us Paul's instructions for men and women in the church. We find that the roles of men and women in the church are not left to opinion, preference, or cultural adaption; rather, they are founded in God's good design from the beginning of creation.  We must ask ourselves if we are willing to obey God and trust that His ways are the best ways, especially for His chur...

In 1 Timothy 2:1-7, Paul begins giving instructions for how a church should operate and how the people within it should relate to one another. Paul's first priority is that the church pray for all people, specifically for those in positions of authority. We get to explore the role we as Christians play in praying for our government leaders and discover there is a gospel-focus to it!

In 1 Timothy 1:18-20 Paul concludes his introductory charge rallying Timothy to "wage the good warfare" there in Ephesus. Paul reminds us that we have an enemy and we are in a war, but the good news is that we have everything we need to win this war through the power of the Holy Spirit and faith in Christ!

In 1 Timothy 1:12-17, Paul has an outburst of praise and thanksgiving for his own salvation. He highlights that God saved him from his ignorant unbelief and called him even while he was a persecutor of the church. Ultimately, Paul views his salvation as an example to lead other people to faith in Jesus.

1 Timothy 1:1-11 gives us the introduction to the letter to Timothy. In this passage Paul is rallying Timothy's resolve to remain at Ephesus in order to combat the false teaching. He reminds Timothy that our ultimate goal of our charge from God is love. Christian love originates in right knowledge of God and his love for us which then should translate to our love for others. 

This week we take time to explore some background information on the Pastoral Epistles (1 & 2 Timothy and Titus) in order to prepare us to get the most out of our time in them this year. We will answer the question, "Who needs the pastoral epistles?"

This week we have the privilege of listening to Logan Douglas open God's Word to us from Romans 12:1-2. Logan is an IMB missionary in the nation fo Iceland. 

This week we go behind the scenes to find a theology of Christmas by looking at Galatians 4:4-7.

This is the heart of Genesis: Faith in the promises of God. From beginning to end, Genesis is really a series of promises from God to his people and we see how people respond in faith to those promises. May we learn from their example and live our lives as people who still have faith in the promises of God.
