Study Romans 7, beginning at verse 14, with pastors of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Des Peres, MO.

In Romans 6 Paul declared that we are free from sin. In chapter 7 he emphasized another aspect of the freedom that is ours because we are baptized into Christ. We are free from the Law. We are free to live the “new way of the Spirit.” So, does the Law still serve any purpose for Christians?

The Apostle Paul has carefully explained how God has acted to bring us justification, redemption and reconciliation through Jesus Christ our Lord.  He is only beginning to tell us about the abundance of blessings we have.  In Chapter 6 he shares with us the blessings of baptism and the marvelous unity we have with Christ through baptism.  The blessings just keep coming!

We all know about Adam.  Have you ever heard about the Second Adam?  Well, Romans 5:12-21 tells us about the Second Adam who is none other than Jesus Christ.  He did everything that the first Adam failed to do.  God sent us a Second Adam, a Savior.

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith…”   What a powerful statement!  Since we have been justified by faith God has abundant blessings and a new life for us.  In Chapter 5 God tells us through the Apostle Paul of the blessed life we now have by faith in Jesus Christ.  We will marvel at all God does for us.

Paul has carefully explained how God has provided the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that by faith we are declared right with Him.  But what about Abraham so long ago?  How was he right with God?  What about circumcision?  Was he justified by works?  Paul answers these questions as we explore Romans 4.

Paul has brought us all to the place where we are all under God’s wrath and punishment as sinful human beings.  Such is the Word of God.  However, this is not the last Word.  Suddenly, with one word, “but” everything changes.  Now God shares with us His Gospel.  Wrath and punishment have no place in His Gospel.  Now the words are forgiveness, justification, and life.  This week Rev.
