When Jesus tells us a parable about a rich man ignoring the poor man who lives at the bottom of his garden, it’s easy for us to agree.  To say ‘Yeah, that’s terrible!  People should behave better.”  But that’s not what parables are for.  Parables are about teaching us something about ourselves and about God.  This isn’t a story about someone else.

I wonder what comes to mind when you hear the word ‘possession’? Does it send you into a world of scary movies? Or do you think about the things you own? What if I was to tell you that those two things are more closely linked than it might seem?

As inflation rockets and people worry about how they will heat their homes today we encounter Jesus taking a huge swipe at entitlement.  He tells his important host that there is a different way to live and that the rewards are far greater than a better seat at a Friday night dinner.

When Jesus heals a woman on the sabbath he gets in trouble from a religious leader who has completely misunderstood what sabbath is and what it is for.  So what is it?  And why should that matter to us?
