At St. Andrew, we are a community of people seeking to live more like Jesus every day and to learn in deeper ways what it means to follow his teachings, live in community, and serve the world. Each week as part of worship, we proclaim the word through communal prayer, liturgy, song and messages. We hope that these messages will help connect you closer to your faith, scripture and ultimately God.

Christ the King - Contemporary 9:30 AM - Christ the King 26.11.2023

This Sunday we spend celebrating the sovereignty and glory of Jesus Christ — the one who has inaugurated the kingdom of God. To him God the Father has given all authority and righteousness, as the Lord of all. Jesus is both fully human and fully divine, and we hold this truth in understanding his identity. The scriptures are full of imagery which show us God’s unique glory, including the famous te...

Thankfulness - Contemporary 9:30 AM - Thankfulness 19.11.2023

There are people in our lives that are truly gifts. They bless us in many ways and we know that they are special. We often are taught to express our gratitude to that person directly (which is great), but how frequently do we remember to thank God for these people? How might our relationship (both with the person and) with God change, when we go to him in prayer of thanksgiving for the people in o...

All Saints 2023 - Contemporary 11:00 AM - All Saints 05.11.2023

All Saints Sunday is a tradition observed annually in the Church. It is on this first Sunday of November that we celebrate the lives of persons in our lives who have died this year and are now with Christ in eternity. An important part of understanding for us regarding our identity as God’s beloved people includes learning about our place within “the communion of saints”. We, the Church, believe t...

The Cost of Discipleship - Contemporary 9:30 AM - Jesus Preaches 29.10.2023

One of the greatest signals to Jesus’ human relatability is his willingness to “be real” with his disciples in the ministry to which he called them. There are moments in his preaching when Jesus lays out what the hard reality of life following him looks like… and it isn’t always pretty. But there are plenty of worthwhile things in our own life that aren’t always pretty – right? For Christians, “mi...

The Narrow Path - Contemporary 9:30 AM - Jesus Preaches 22.10.2023

This week our scriptures include excerpts of Jesus’ preaching that are less than clear. Have you ever wondered why many of these Biblical teachings include everyday objects, settings, or items? In Jesus’ day, a speaker needed to have oratory skills in conveying a message with enough interest and relatability that it can be remembered, so to then be passed down orally to the next person. When Jesus...

Who is Your Neighbor? - Traditional 9:30 AM - Jesus Preaches 15.10.2023

One of the most striking themes of Jesus’ teachings in the original context is that of loving one’s neighbor so thoroughly, honestly, and genuinely – which is how we are prone to love ourselves. Especially when Jesus preaches the expansion of his ministry will be for the gentiles, the non-Jewish people, as well. Let’s try to imagine how radical this message was for the first hearers. Not only did...

Who is Your Family? - Contemporary 9:30 AM - Jesus Preaches 08.10.2023

Family is a unique experience for every person. When Jesus preaches throughout his ministry, he includes many familial references, metaphors, parables, and teachings. However, as in most of Jesus’ teachings, he flips the worldly definition and perception of recognizable terms on their head. Jesus preaches a new understanding of what it means to be family as the element that binds members together,...

Kingdom of God is at Hand  - Contemporary 11:00 AM - Jesus Preaches 01.10.2023

Before Jesus himself ever preaches this message of the “kingdom of God”, we find in the gospel that someone else first preaches it: the forerunner of the Messiah, John the Baptist, brings news of this ‘kingdom of heaven’ as an itinerant preacher preparing the way for the Christ. If it feels overwhelming to comprehend now (which it does), just imagine how it felt for those original hearers!   One o...
