Sports Weekend with Steve Thomson

In light of recent weather, the championship games for the MSHSL are taking place today over at Target Field so John Millea, who serves as the media specialist for the MSHSL took us inside the park and talked about the anticipation for these players to finally get their moment after weather and a Twins homestand, a chance to play ball on the big stage today before more rain arrives!  

Time to go outdoors with Steve Carney where we check in on how these rising levels have affected the bite on the lake for him. Also, he talks about a special guest he had on this past week and much more!  

There is a couple of high school games going on over at Target Field - we update on the one crowned champion so far today. We also talk for a bit with Mike Hanson, Director of the Office of Traffic Safety with the Department of Public Safety about a variety of topics regarding road safety including avoiding flooded roadways, construction zones and more!

Final stretch of the show on a Saturday and we dive into (literally) a swimming pool story out of Indianapolis where a crew is piecing together a fascinating Olympic trial facility on the field of Lucas Oil Stadium. Also David LaVaque of the Star Tribune joins to talk lacrosse and other topics in prep sports!   

Tournament season for spring sports is winding down and we talked to Star Tribune prep sports writer and author of “Tourney Time” - David LaVaque to break down the latest in high school lacrosse and much more with tournament venues and even discussed a little bit on his latest book! 

We kicked off this hour talking about the Stanley Cup Final as the Florida Panthers look for the sweep tonight in Edmonton and then list off some of the fun facts regarding one of the most coveted trophies in all of sports - Lord Stanley’s Cup! Also we chatted with Stephen Clark about a variety of spaceflight topics!

Another hour of sports on Saturday, we replayed an interview Dan Gladden sitting down with former Twins closer Joe Nathan. Also discussed Caitlin Clark being left off of Team USA and chatted with Kevin Lynch of Bally Sports North about high school graduation, Celtics-Mavericks Game 4 recap and if Boston can close it out at home in Game 5.

We had the chance to chat with Kevin Lynch of Bally Sports North, reminiscing about high school, Mavericks dominating the Celtics in Game 4, why the Timberwolves struggled with Luka Doncic while Boston isnt and much more!

Took Saturday back as the Twins game was postponed. We chatted fishing with Steve Carney. Then we updated everyone on the US Open at Pinehurst #2. Also, big baseball title game coming up Monday for the MSHSL at Target Field so we previewed that with Tim Leighton of the MSHSL discussing the baseball season and deep dive into the officiating aspect of the high school league. 

There was no baseball on Saturday at Target Field but there is on Monday as the Minnesota State High School League hosts the state title game for baseball at Target Field with Mounds View facing off against East Ridge. We talked with Tim Leighton of the MSHSL also about lacrosse, officiating in high school and more !  

We checked in with Steve Carney on how the bite has been for him as of late and the lake to lake differential with his fishing so far.

Recapping Game 4 of the NBA Finals and previewing tonight's Game 4 in Edmonton of the Stanley Cup Final. We also recap the Twins walk off win over the A’s last night as we lead up to Twins pregame.
