Spirit of Truth/The Bible on Trial

Spirit of Truth Ministry offers two programs each week that test the limits of Christian theology and thought. The flagship program is The Bible on Trial which tests Christianity by using the words and teachings of Jesus Christ as our template. Our other program called Spirit of Truth investigates Truth by integrating Scripture, Bible prophecy, history and the sciences to find and define Truth wherever it may be found. Join us for an uninhibited search for the truth.

The Revelation of Jesus with Rick Sterling 21.10.2017

Psa 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Mat 24:48  But if that evil servant should say in his heart, ‘My lord is delaying his coming,’ These are two examples of the use of the word HEART in Scripture. Yesterday Rick equated the word 'heart' with the concept of 'intellect', and intellect is substantially different from intelligence. If you substitute 'intellect...

On Thrursday the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs by a score of 11 to 1. This score included 3 home runs by Enrique Hernandez that netted 7 RBI's, and tied the NL record for the largest number of home runs in a single game of the NLCS. To say that the team was ecstatic would be an understatement. But how would the Dodgers have felt if the Commissioner of Baseball had come to them befo...

Mat 16:26  "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? The tragedy of the fires on the West Coast are awful, but especially those in the Sonoma and Santa Rosa areas of Northern California. The New York Times today has an online head line that reads "In California, Fires So Fast Hesitation Proved Lethal". "One m...

"It's hard to imagine that things could get much worse!" This past week I have heard this expressed in one form or another by several people as I have worked at my fairly new part time job at the hardware store in town. The store has put up an end cap display of items that are typically used in emergency kits for both home and car; duct tape, first aid kit, water purifier, and another dozen or so...

This morning I was thinking about sourdough starter. Go figure! Don't ask me why, it just came into my head. Now this will not be a cooking class, but REAL sourdough started takes a LONG time to achieve, and reminded me that it is similar in texture and application to what it is like to combine knowledge with understanding to reach wisdom. The sourdough process consists of starting with whole whea...

The recent tragedy in Las Vegas has confirmed one point about 'news coverage', and that is this; "No one knows the truth, and no one cares what the truth really is". The emotional firestorm during the aftermath of this tragic shooting has demonstrated that what people believe about what they see and hear during news coverage of these kinds of events is based solely on what they have already decide...

If God was in need of a person to do a specific job for Them, how would Elohim go about hiring that person? What would be the incentive for a person to leave everything that they know and love to go to work for Elohim? Does God pay wages for work rendered and a job well done, or do They simply assume that the person they are going to hire will do it for free? In the parable of the Laborers in the...

"Truth Will Out". William Shakespeare was the greatest writer in the English language that ever lived. I know this may seem a little sac-religious to some, but remember Jesus never wrote down a word of what He said to His disciples, they did. One of the most poigniant phrases the Bill said (he and I are on speaking terms) is from his play The Merchant of Venice, written in 1596, in which a charact...

Spirit of Truth Ministry will be holding a Seminar/Study on September 29 through October 1, 2017, at the Bob's Big Boy Restaurant in Calimesa California (540 Sandalwood, 92320). This will be an eye opening presentation that will challenge the beliefs and faith of all that attend, so that minds and hearts can be opened to Truth. Join us for this wonderful event.  Today we will be introducing some o...

What do you do when a medicine that you are taking to correct a physical problem does not work? There are all kinds of responses to this situation; from getting mad at the company that manufactured the medicine, to blaming the doctor for prescribing the 'wrong' medicine, to blaming God for allowing you to get the problem in the first place. There are two things that most people do not do (at one t...

"What On Earth?" This is an expression my mom used time and again when she would notice something out of place in the house, or not up to her standards of excellence in the homework, music practicing, house cleaning, bed making, personal interactions between us siblings, or any of a hundred other things that did not fit her idea of 'proper' behaviour, decorum, neatness, or grooming. For those of y...

Do you enjoy tests? This seems like a rediculous question, because for most people testing of any kind is a pain in the neck. Why? In order to pass a test you have to study for it, and studying for anything is a pain in the neck. But preparing for a test is the ONLY way in which a person can know ahead of time whether they will pass the test, or not. The prayer of the unprepared goes something lik...

No amount of persuasion can convince a person that is sure of themselves that they are believing a lie, if they believe that lie is the truth. Hurricane Irma is bearing down of Florida with a vengence, and people en mass are fleeing before it, but there are still people that believe that they will survive it 'in place'. I truly hope that it turns out to be true, but the likelyhood of everyone that...

How does a person find the truth? Many people in our modern world find truth in something called 'metrics', that is "Standards of measurement by which efficiency, performance, progress, or quality of a plan, process,, or product can be assessed" (Buisness Dictionary). In school teachers use metrics to assess student performance in the various disciplines that comprise a set curriculum; they measur...

Today fires are raging all over the Western USA. In our region (about 75 miles from us) is the La Tuna Cyn fire, which has now changed direction and is heading for a populated area near Burbank California. Officials have declared a manditiory evacuation of 200 homes that are in the path of the fire. My son and his girl friend are visiting friends in Salem Oregon, and they are breathing smoke of fi...

Illegal immigration is a huge topic in the world today. There are at least two sides to every issue, and this is true for this issue as well. In the USA one side says that those of us with the privilage to live in a 'free' society should not require people outside of that society to acknowledge the 'rule of law' and enter a country according to the laws for immigration for our country. The other s...

The Revelation of Jesus with Rick Sterling 26.08.2017

Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. Rev.3:10. Is this verse speaking of you? Have you ever thought about what this verse could mean to your future regarding salvation and eternal life? What does it mean to your salvation to 'endure patiently'? And why would enduring pat...

The Bible On Trial 25.08.2017

"This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. "For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed "But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God." John 3:19-21. We here th...

The Revelation of Jesus with Rick Sterling 19.08.2017

When we at Spirit of Truth Ministry look for spiritual truth, truth that leads to salvation and eternal life, we look to the words of Jesus that He gave to His own eyewitness disciples as the source for that truth, THEN we compare it to words of what other people have said on that particular subject and note any differences. The extent of those differences informs our view of truth, because it is...

The Bible On Trial 18.08.2017

Prayers for Barcelona! I spoke with a good friend of mine this morning, and he was upset with a number of his friends because, as he put it, "They have gone off the deep end". He is a liberal minded person, in that he likes to look at all sides of an issue before he makes a determination as to how to proceed. He said that many of his friends are responding with a 'knee jerk' reaction to world even...

The Revelation of Jesus with Rick Sterling 12.08.2017

"Lighten up!" We have all heard this phrase directed at us from time to time, because there are times when we feel that life becomes slightily more intense than our ability to cope. In these situations sometimes our friends can see solutions that we can not because they are not 'inside' that situation. That being said, I cannot imagine any of the disciples of Jesus saying that to Jesus, except for...

The Bible On Trial 11.08.2017

Fraud is such an ugly word. I think all of us, at one time or another, have experienced some form of fraud; Bait-and-switch in buying a used car, credit card fraud, charities fraud, check fraud, pyramid schemes, and now online fraud, to name a few. Genesis 29 speaks of a fraud Laban perpetrated upon Jacob in giving him Leah instead of Rachel to wife, after seven years of labor in payment. Yet as h...

My son's very best childhood and high school friend got married to an Austrailian girls and moved to New Castle in Austrailia about 5 years ago. Zach and Shane don't see each other very often in person, but they do Skype regularly to keep in touch. Whenever Shane comes to the USA with Krysta, Zach will go to extraordinary lengths to be able to visit them. This involves considerable time and distan...

The Bible On Trial 04.08.2017

People worry about a lot of things. The top of the list for most would have to be money, or the lack of it. But this is by no means the only worries to whihc people have become accustomed; health, relationships, children, pets, cars, vacations, TAXES, ad infinitum. And if that were not enough, when we have run out of those we will invent worries if we don't feel as if we have enough to keep us bus...

The Revelation of Jesus with Rick Sterling 29.07.2017

How do you wake up in the morning from a very deep sleep? What is the process that allows you to come to the realization that you are awake, and not still dreaming? This process is essentially the same as when you wake up to truth. And waking up to truth uses the same kind of process as using a metaphor to explain a spiritual truth. In waking up to truth we all use the same process, we just use di...
