Spanish Wine Experience

This week Roque and Luke return to the weird and wonderful world of Vinos de la Tierra and grab a bottle which they haven't tried but from a winery they love. Bodega Tridente and their Mencía wine from Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. Quite the mouthful. They chat decanting wine and superpowers. Expect the usual nonsense to go with it.

This week a special guest and a special wine. VERMOUTH. A misunderstood style of wine that is very popular in Spain and which is NOT Martini! We sample two bottles from the Arlini Bodega and get tipsy on a wonderful gift from Holland! We answer questions about the drink itself and generally let it go to our heads!

This week Roque and Luke take a final trip to the Basque Country with a bottle of Txacoli from their last teaming region: DO Txakoli de Bizkaia / Bizkaiko Txakolina from the Itsasmendi winery off the crashing Atlantic coast. They talk winemaking challenge and effects and have a special interview! Enjoy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! This week Roque and Luke return again to those sun-dappled volcanic islands of the Canaries. They sample a bottle from DO Tacoronte-Acentejo in the northeast part of the island. Viña Norte by Bodegas Insulares. They toast 2018 and chat top 5 wine choices!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Yes, it's that time of year again. Dust off your Xmas jumper and grab your turkeys, it's our festive special. This year Luke brings Roque some surprise weird wine presents in the form of odd boozes and attempts to make a mulled wine. Expect chaos, festive questions and chat about food. Merry Christmas one and all!

This week Roque and Luke head to the most westerly point of Spain and the most westerly of the Canary Islands to try a bottle of DO El Hierro. This interesting wine, made by Viña Frontera, came full of grapes the likes of which the podcast had never seen. Discussion topic this week? How to fake it at a wine party!

SURPRISE!! Yes, it's true. It's really happening. We are going back one last time final time to Catalonia. This chilly week we drink the one that almost got away: DO Penedés; a región most famous for its sparkling Cava wines. But Roque and Luke sample instead a fascinating bottle of white Nosodos+ from Albet i Noya. They chat bottle sizes and introduce a new segment to the show!

Time to say goodbye to our beloved Catalonia with the little known DO Pla de Bages. We have tried Abadal Franc, an unexpected red wine that has not left us indifferent. See for yourself, but watch out! Roque and Luke say more nonsense than ever.

This week something completely unexpected for Roque and Luke. They head to the flat humid lands in the deep southeast of the country with a bottle from DO Condado de Huelva. They share a bottle of Letrado from Bodegas Iglesias and discuss this new region, new wine style and new grape. They also shares ideas for imaginary wine gadgets and how to pair with fortified wines.

This week Roque and Luke head back to the realm of the Vinos de Pago, but this time to a small microclimate tucked away in the south of Navarra: Pago de Cirsus, DO Pago Finca Bolandín. They chat food pairings for Thanksgiving and blather on about glasses. Expect the usual levels of geekery and stupidity.

This week, as Madrid descends into winter, Roque and Luke head northwest back to Galicia to pick up their last DO there: DO Ribeiro. A positively sexy bottle of Pazo Tizón Extramundi white wine. Amid nonsense, the pair chat pairings with grilled food and why the Spaniards seems to drink more beer than vino!

This week sees Roque and Luke flying back to the Balearic Islands to guzzle down a bottle of DO Binissalem-Mallorca wine. They pop open a white by Jaume de Puntiró, made with an interesting local varietal. Amidst geeky chat they also explain the rules of the new SWE drinking game!

Today Roque and Luke travel to DO Alella, back to Catalan lands, where they will discover the red wine Parvas Syrah, from Bodegas Alta Alella. The perfect occasion to answer some questions that had been left unanswered, besides saying a few stupidities and nonsense.

Happy Podcast Day! This week Roque and Luke tackle another one of the single estate Vinos de Pago! This time it's DO Pago Florentino, a wine made in the depths of La Mancha but is owned by legendary Ribera del Duero bodega Arzuaga. They talk wine movies and receive and answer live 'in the moment' questions from some listeners.

This week sees Luke and Roque heading into the southeastern part of Castilla La Mancha to dinky DO Almansa and sample a hefty bottle of Atalaya del Camino from Bodegas Atalaya. They talk of how to buy wine as a student, exorcisms and many other bizarre topics. Salud!

On this week's podcast Roque and Luke journey to one of the country's younger regions; the grandly named DO Tierra de León. They sample a bottle of wine from the Pardevalles winery and enjoy their native Albarín grape. They also muse of guzzle-able wine and replantings!

This week, Roque and Luke take on one of the big guns - and one of Luke's favourite DOs: Jerez; otherwise known as Sherry or Xerez! This is a hefty mission so they are joined by special guest boozer Fabio. He helps them get through a Fino, an Amontillado and an Oloroso. Expect geekiness and pandemonium as expected.  

This week Roque and Luke head to one of the smaller DOs of Spain and back to Castilla La Mancha. DO Uclés and a bottle of Dominio de Fontana. They chat about pod statistics, DOs and music on this beautifully shambolic, as usual, podcast. Salud!

This week something a little different from the SWE team. Instead of a specific region, this week Roque and Luke focus on a winery for their first bodega special. They talk about the wines of Casa Rojo, share a bottle of DO Jumilla and DO Rueda and speak to a member of the winery team. Salud!

This week Roque and Luke head back to the land of Quixote to finally take on the world's largest wine-growing region: DO La Mancha. They share a rather impressive bottle of Finca Antigua Merlot. All goes normally until Roque drops the biggest surprise in the history of SWE. Enjoy!

This week Roque and Luke celebrate their one year anniversary with a bottle of DO Terra Alta called El Mago; an organic wine by 2013's Winemaker of the Year Franck Massard. The pair also have some surprise news in store, but you'll have to wait until the end of the podcast for that.

Today the SWE team return to the Canary Islands. Roque and Luke are joined by special guest traveller Debbie Musgrove. She's been on holiday and brought the boys a bottle of wine - Famara - from Bodega Vega de Yuco in DO Lanzarote. They talk wine innovation and volcanic parks and start longing for holidays!

This week sees Roque and Luke once again returning to their beloved Vinos de Pago. A bottle of Opta from DO Calzadilla. The sensual red hails from the lands near Cuenca. They will talk about «tinto de verano» and the usual nonsense.
