The word "love" today is a junk-drawer term... it means everything or anything you enjoy and so it has lost its true meaning. In this sermon we explore what love is and what love does.

There are six key truths to understanding what it means to be a Christian who bears the fruit of the Spirit.

No matter what season we find ourselves as a church, some things remain constant. Mike encourages us that worship, prayer, Scripture and surrender to the Holy Spirit are needed disciplines of a disciple of Jesus.

We often think that money is the root of all evil but the Bible does not say that. The Bible does say however that the love of money is the root of evil. James warns us that money is so seductive that we should expect terrible troubles ahead of us if we place out hope in riches. Pride seems to be at the foundation of many other sins... greed, gossip, fighting, even self-loathing. James reminds us that pride is deadly and causes delusions of grandeur, spiritual psychosis. The only remedy is to look up to the truth of who God is for sanity.

Why do Christians fight? James tells us it is because of evil desires that are within us. James reminds us that we must humble ourselves in order to combat our sinful and selfish desires that cause wars between Christians.

James tells us that there are two kinds of wisdom... Godly and worldly. Worldly wisdom is based on our own judgement while God's wisdom is always that best way forward even if it seems uncomfortable at the time.

James does not pull punches, he has no problem instructing us on how we should and should not speak. But James is not just concerned with our words but also with the heart, as it is the source of the words that we speak.

To treat others with favoritism is not the way of the Christian but why, don't other religions preach the same thing? James explains that favoritism and the Christian faith are not compatible because the gospel of Jesus is not based on favoritism either.

James tells us that we need to be quick to listen but listen with humble hearts because without listening to the Word of God, we do not know what to do. But listening is not enough, once we have heard, we must put into action what is required of us. If we do not act, we are only fooling ourselves.

This past week was a horrific and harrowing display of the brokenness and depravity of the fallen world in which we live. The assassination of Charlie Kirk, the stabbing of an innocent woman and school shootings have left us in disbelief and heartbroken. Kelly shares with us how a disciple of Jesus should respond in grief, boldness and prayer.

We will all experience trials in life, even as faithful followers of Jesus. So how should we respond to trials when they come? James reminds his readers that they should consider it pure joy when we experiences trials because God is working in us his good plan to make us more and more like Christ.

Could you imagine being the half-brother of Jesus? That's who James was yet he was skeptical of Jesus for most of his life. So how did James go from skeptic of Jesus to servant of Jesus? It would seem the resurrection of Jesus changed the life of James so much that he would base every life decision on it. James shows us how we too must submit to the Lordship of Jesus in every area of life.

Everyone wants to be connected in real and meaningful relationship but we normally don't push beyond the pretense of pseudo community. In this sermon Kelly reminds us that a disciple of Jesus is connected to the body of Christ by being known, loved and challenged.

To be a disciple of Jesus means that we are connected together as his body. One of the ways his body connects is by gathering together. In this sermon, Kelly shares why it matters when the church gathers together and why we should not forsake its gatherings as some do.
