Kent kicks off our Advent series which explores the stories of some of the key figures of Jesus's genealogy and the Old Testament, and how the family that God worked through to bring the Messiah to our world forshadows who Jesus is, what he came to do, and what he is still doing in our world today. First up is Abraham who was given a promise that through him all nations would be blessed.

Why does Acts seem to end suddenly without much resolution to the life of Paul, the Apostles, or the Early Church? What does the open ending of Acts show us about the purpose of the book?

Kent teaches the story from Acts 20:7-12 of a boy falling out of a window and being resurrected by Paul, and draws out from it layers of meaning, including a call throughout scripture to remain wakeful.

Kent launches out of the story of the Ephesian church in Acts 19 to discuss spiritual warfare and Paul’s wisdom in fighting darkness he shares too the church in Ephesians.

How did Paul endure so much suffering, persecution, and opposition to continue on in his calling? What creates the internal motivation to endure as we bear our own cross and calling?

Last week we discussed the Church’s call to confront culture, but this week we look at the symmetrical posture of engaging culture. Paul does the work of understanding and engaging culture, so that he can affirm and build upon what is good and confront and critique what is broken.

Pastor Kent teaches from Acts 15:36-42 on the proper way to part ways when necessary. 

The early church does something in Acts 15:1-21 that seems impossible to us today: they work through disagreement in a healthy way. How prophetic would it be for the church to do this consistently today?
