Sleepover Cinema
Welcome to Sleepover Cinema, where we analyze the films that created the collective unconscious of the girls and gays of the late 90s and early 2000s. Hosted by sister filmmaking duo Hannah and Audrey Leach, also known as Too Pink Productions, Sleepover Cinema is an exploration of the movies that first inspired their love for film aimed at answering the question… are these movies actually good? And at the end of the day, do we really care if they are?

Mary-Kate and Ashley take New York City with diametrically-opposed personalities and personal styles… this should be the coming of age movie of a generation, no? Even with Avril Lavigne references and the inexplicable presence of Eugene Levy… 2004’s “New York Minute” raises some serious questions. Support New York City's Chinatown here, here, or here! Twilight ft. Megan & Liz 01.04.2021 1:10:16
Close your eyes and imagine: it’s November 2009. You’re standing in a suburban movie theatre with “Team Edward” emblazoned across your chest. You were recently acknowledged by both Oprah AND Taylor Swift on national television. Life is good. The life you’re imagining is that of Megan & Liz, early-YouTube sensations turned indie musicians, who join us this week to unpack their favorite franchise, T...
The Cheetah Girls 2 25.03.2021 58:58
A critical influence on basic girls’ study abroad trips fo generations to come, The Cheetah Girls 2 is a blazer-and-tank-tops-filled romp through Barcelona. Relatively unimpressive a cappella sections, stale beef, and bland love interests aside, this movie brought SO much to the table in the summer of 2006. Let’s explore. Heathers vs. The Craft ft. Yhara Zayd 18.03.2021 1:06:53
Pitting two killer teen classics against each other is not a game for the faint of heart— especially 1989’s “Heathers” and 1996’s “The Craft.” We had to call in goddess and resident expert Yhara Zayd to help us deliberate. The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea 11.03.2021 1:00:18
2000’s “The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea” is one of a long line of controversial direct-to-video Disney sequels. Despite its being plagued by low-budget animation, plot holes, and critical disdain, Audrey and Hannah may have seen this one even more times than the original. Ella Enchanted 04.03.2021 1:00:02
2004’s “Ella Enchanted,” while a prime byproduct of the Shrek Industrial Complex of the early 2000s, is in retrospect a rare breed: a mid-size fantasy movie starring Anne Hathaway AND the intellectual property of Queen? Say no more. . For more details on this episode, go to www.evergreenpodcasts.com/sleepover-cinema! Follow Too Pink Pictures on Instagram here! Follow Hannah and Audrey on Instagram...
She's The Man 25.02.2021 1:02:49
2006’s “She’s The Man” starring Amanda Bynes (and loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night) has all the things we normally look for in a Sleepover Cinema classic: but is this movie the understated exploration of queer identity that we want it to be? Season Two Premiere: Sleepover 18.02.2021 59:40
2004’s “Sleepover” is a movie Hannah and Audrey utterly missed out on as tweens, and what a shame. A critically-misunderstood movie ceaselessly packed with clichés, hijinks, and cute boys, “Sleepover” is, according to the Leach sisters, a loving perspective from the female gaze in a culture stacked against it. For more details on this episode, go to www.evergreenpodcasts.com/sleepover-cinema! Fol...
Aquamarine: Season One Finalé 14.01.2021 58:43
2006’s “Aquamarine.” Where do we begin? While on the surface a simple movie about two best friends and a mermaid, this one is an inspiration. A vision. A fount of creative energy. Starring faves the legendary JoJo and our king Jake McDorman, we saved this one for last for a reason. For more details on this episode, go to www.evergreenpodcasts.com/sleepover-cinema! Josie and the Pussycats ft. Name 3 Songs 07.01.2021 57:56
2001’s “Josie and the Pussycats” suffered from a classic case of misaligned marketing— and while this movie was certainly NOT made for kids, the impact that it made on the generation of girls, gays, and theys that DID find this movie is immeasurable. Sara and Jenna of the podcast Name 3 Songs join Hannah and Audrey to unpack how this film inspired their journeys within the music industry. If you...
Bratz vs. The Clique 31.12.2020 1:11:46
2007’s "Bratz” and 2008’s “The Clique” SHOULD have been huge hits, considering that they were products of some of the most popular intellectual properties of our youth. While that was NOT the case, Hannah and Audrey are here to put these two tales of pretty-girl cliques in the ring against each other and DEFINITELY decide which one is still worth watching. For more details on this episode, go to w...

2003’s “The Lizzie McGuire Movie” was a HUGE deal to tweens all over the world. Cow Belles vs. Material Girls 10.12.2020 1:13:04
2006 was clearly a time full of growing pains for women in pop culture. Shows like "The Simple Life" and "The Girls Next Door," foundational texts for the bimbos of today, were creating a reactionary wave of "feminist" criticism, and for our purposes, that manifested in the form of two ENTIRELY SEPARATE tween-targeted movies centering around the rich and spoiled sisters getting their comeuppance—...
The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement 03.12.2020 56:55
2004’s “The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement” is one of the most polarizing sequels in the tween movie canon— featuring baby Chris Pine, painful jokes about a wooden leg, and an only-somewhat justifiable autotuned duet between Dame Julie Andrews and Raven Symoné, there’s a lot to talk about. Including, importantly... does this movie measure up to the rules of a good sequel? For more detai...
Ice Princess 26.11.2020 51:56
2005’s “Ice Princess,” best known to Hannah and Audrey for its iconic line “there must be an exact aerodynamic formula,” has lived on in the annals of our unconscious minds since we first saw it. With lots of visible breath in cold air, plenty of Zamboni shots, and of course, GREAT sparkling leotards, does this movie live up to the ladies’ memories? For more details on this episode, go to www.ever...
Life Size 19.11.2020 46:51
In 2000’s cult classic “Life Size" starring Lindsay Lohan and Tyra Banks, we were surprised to rediscover under-discussed successful witchcraft, visible traumatization of an eleven-year-old girl, and a shocking amount of sexual harassment… was this movie even intended for children!? Who decided that it was?! Hannah and Audrey discuss. For more details on this episode, go to www.evergreenpodcasts.c...

Passport to Paris 05.11.2020 53:58
What do two all-American tweens do the city of lights? Diplomatically finesse a revamp of the aqueduct system of Paris, apparently. 1999's Passport to Paris starring none other than Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen is a somewhat deep cut that gives you everything you want— matching outfits, swordfighting with baguettes, and a plot totally dependent on a lack of cell phones. For more details on this episod...
1997's Cinderella 29.10.2020 51:34

In this episode, they regale us with fun facts, secrets, and LOVING TAKES on what might be their favorite movie ever. For more details on this episode, go to www.evergr...

A Cinderella Story 15.10.2020 48:37
2004's A Cinderella Story is a movie that ultra-permeated the consciousness of Hannah and Audrey's childhood. Here's a link to the video essay Audrey refers to about Hilary Duff playing the same character in...
