What are the benefits of knowing the one true God? They implications of John's description may surprise you. We know that we have this benefit because it is grounded in the historic Gospel and through the hearing, considering, and believing of the objective truth of the Gospel we can access this benefit in the face of seemingly unanswered prayers, temptation, sin, trials, and every kind of evil.

It struck me this week as I studied this passage that nothing Is more Important than “Having” Eternal Life. But what is "Eternal Life" and who can secure it for me, and how do I know that I have it? Using the terminology of the courtroom, the Apostle John explains that what we need is in fact "THE GOOD LAWYER."

Is the old proverb true? "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush?" It seems that each successive generation gets a little more impatient. We want it all and we want it now. But are the ways of the world the ways of God? Or does the Gospel of Jesus Christ confuses the wisdom of the world and promise something much more?

With Mary, Peter, John, and the others, the problem was not expecting too much out of Jesus, but expecting too little. So often God doesn’t give us what we think we want, because he wants to give us something greater. The resurrection account in the Gospel of John teaches us that "OUR HOPES ARE TOO SMALL, BECAUSE OUR KINGS OUR TOO SMALL!"
