Shit Talk Reviews

Right around 20 years ago, Lamb Of God released Ashes Of The Wake. The reviews back then were excellent, just as the reviews of the 20th Anniversary re-release have been. And since Lamb Of God has been such a staple (and because LoG is fast becoming a heritage band within the genre) the Shit Talk yahoos wanted to talk about it. Be sure to drop by www.shittalkreviews/com for a slew of other reviews...

This week John and Derek dig into Kill The Mind, the latest EP from Downpour. Fronted by Brian Fair (Shadows Fall, Overcast,) Derek Kerswill (Unearth, Seemless,) Matt Lebreton (Frozen, Cannae,) Pete Gelles (Birch Hill Dam, Sorrowseed,) Downpour brings a delicious mix of the heavy with some metalcore, progressive metal and straight up power. We love this record and our only beef with it is that it&...

Definition of a Super Group: noun: super-group an exceptionally successful rock group or one formed by musicians already famous from playing in other groups.  Derek and John sat down to yap about the latest metal super group to hit the scene: Category 7. Made up of five power hitters, the self-titled debut album brings modern power and the nostalgia of solid 80s metal. With John Bush (Armored Sain...

The guys sat down this week for a chat with the legendary vocalist (and fitness guru) from Shadows Fall, Overcast and Downpour, the one and only Brian Fair. They talk about sports (with balls and discs of all shapes,) Brian’s long musical history, Derek groping Brian’s junk in years past, Phish, and the mechanics of what it takes to maintain a voice over the course of almost 40 years of fronting h...

Drop in on the conversation and see what's happening in Blake's world. THen head over to https://...

Numetal mainstays P.O.D. have dropped their 11th album Veritas on May 3rd and John and David J finally got around to talking about it. If you’re looking for an ethereal journey through space and time, this might not be the album for you. But if you’re looking to swing to some familiar and comfortable rock rap, you’re going to dig this record.  Be sure to swing by https://www.shittalkreviews.com fo...

This episode the Shit Talk triumvirate yak about Schizophrenia, the latest album from Cavalera Conspiracy. Of course, as the majority of the content on the record was first released in 1987 by Sepultura, one could be forgiven for saying it’s technically a Sepultura album. In any case, the Brothers Cavalera have dropped a freshly re-recorded version that includes two new tracks written by Max and i...

This episode the guys talk about Death Is Little More, the super powerful new album from Hartford based crushers Boundaries. If you’re down with high octane dissonance, bruising riffs and heartfelt lyrics, this is absolutely an album worth checking out. It’s a wonderful bit of music. In discussing the album and the powerful lyrical content, the guys touch on mental heath and the importance of self...

The STR guys were happy to have a few visitors in the house for a chat this week! Dan Lorenzo (Hades, Non Fiction) and Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Danzig, Quiet Riot) joined the fray for a conversation about Patriarchs In Black’s new album Visioning, working remotely, songs named Robert, writing flows and relationships. If you want to donate to a great cause or are looking to adopt a dog, be su...

This time around Derek got progged over the head. And he liked it!   Charismatic Leaders is the third release from Finland’s progmetal gurus Wheel.  As the resident Shit Talk prog guy, John wanted to bring it to the table. The album is great and is covered with just enough frosting for Derek (the resident thrash guy) to dig it too; the consensus is that if you dig the metal but are new to the prog...

John and Derek sat down this time around to do the Devil’s Work. (Or rather, to chat about Kerry King’s new album From Hell I Rise.) It’s all Kerry King, but with enough touches of the Slayer to keep the diehard fans into it. It’s got so much power that Derek wants to run back to the woods in Vermont and start throwing beer kegs around if that’s any indication… It’s a strong record and definitely...

It’s a “West-Coast-reverbed-out-surf-punk-with-tight-and-bouncy-Britrock” kind of week as the guys talk about Cold World, the latest release from L.A. based Death Lens. An album filled with ear worms, great production and big energy, the Shit Talk triumvirate get into it.  You know where the STR site is, but we’re gonna remind you again anyway: https://www.shittalkreviews.com is where you can chec...

This time around the fellas are chatting about VOIDKIND, the new release from Scottish prog sludge band DVNE. It’s a strong record and the guys have plenty to say about it. Grab yourself some snacks and a cold one (we’d recommend some haggis with cracked pepper crisps and a Harviestoun…) and drop in for the convo!  The video version is up now on YouTube (if you've got the stones to look at th...

Daniel Freyberg is a monstrous guitar player and songwriter who has played with Naildown, Norther, Children Of Bodom and Crownshift. Crownshift's debut album was released on May 10 2024 and it's absolutely killer. Derek and John had the chance to talk with him about all things Daniel, Crownshift, gear and some of Crownshift's future plans.  Grab yourself some snacks and a coffee and...

The Cavaleras and crew return with another re-recording of a vintage ripper and the Shit Talk guys are all about it. Max and Igor remain in top form with the first single from the upcoming rerelease of Schizophrenia. Drop in on the fellas as they get into it. Nostrildamus makes his predictions for the future of Cavalera/Sepultura, David J bemoans missing out on the last show and John is just happy...

For fans of the wild, sludgy, trudge, awesomeness that is MELVINS, it’s a great week with the release of their new album Tarantula Heart. It’s a beast of a record and the guys were psyched to talk about it. Grab yourself a glass of some of the world’s best lemonade (Country Time Lemonade; It’s not just for the summer, it’s good ALL YEAR ROUND…) and have a listen as the buffoons get into it.   The...

Ohhh boy… The Shit Talk Reviews crew had to talk about Motley Crue’s latest single Dogs Of War. Obviously the guys all have their own opinion about the track, but the conversation seems to leave more questions than answers. For instance, did the band write track or was it composed by the great wizard behind the AI curtain? We’ll all find out at some point, but for now, have a hang with the yahoos...

It’s a lovefest this week as the guys get into the debut release from Crownshift. With members from Nightwish, Children Of Bodom, Fintroll and Wintersun, this album is expansive, grandiose and is destined to go down as one of the year’s best progressive metal records. Grab yourself a tasty beverage and some snacks and hang out with the Shit Talk guys as they get into it. You can also follow the ST...

This time around two of the three idiots (who make up this podcast trifecta of ineptitude) have a chat about Epic, the new album from supergroup Vltimas. The multinational band of powerhouse performers came together again to bring nine new tracks of the heavy. Also, John is a complete dink who may likely be forever haunted and Derek wants Lars to get kicked out of Metallica. (And both of their hea...

It's all about Taylor Swift this week! (Ok, not ALL about Taylor Swift...) This week David J and John sit down and yammer on about Warp Speed Warriors, the new album from DragonForce. A killer, super fast album packed full of powerful performances. As Derek was yachting in the French Riviera he wasn't able to attend the chat, but David and John are hopeful that he'll bring them some...

This episode the yahoos talk about Bruce Dickinson's new solo album The Mandrake Project. Do Bruce's projects stand up to the high water mark set by his work with Iron Maiden? Should Bruce cut ties with Maiden and stick to a straight solo career? Should Dave take Bruce or Wolfie to the secluded island to repopulate the planet? Tune in to find out. It's riveting. Really... They also...

The guys plop down and dig into the monstrous new album from Enterprise Earth. It's a beast of an album with enough meat on the bone to feed a country or two.  Join in the frivolities and witness the majesty of David not knowing who Bruce Dickenson's studio band is, John speaking way out of turn and Derek falling prey to his own innards. Check out all the reviews, podcasts and other nons...
