Paul's third prayer request for the Ephesians is for their increased knowledge, and therein is the power of God.  Pastor Mollenkopf highlights how the Ephesians had seen the power of God manifest to them detailed by Luke in Acts 19. This power of God in the saints' knowledge of Christ is in view in this morning's passage.

The author of Hebrews his readers to be on their guard that they are not led astray from a true faith like Israel was led astray in the wilderness. Saints exhorting one another to persevere is an integral part of God's plan in guiding believers into eternal life.

God the Father planned that in Christ the curse of this world, sin, would be removed. Due to Jesus making the payment for sin by His blood, we now have God’s gracious gifts of forgiveness and knowledge of the mystery of His will. Josiah’s life and reign is guided, directed, and ruled by the word of God.  He so faithfully adheres to it and leads reform because of it that the author says no king was like him before or after. Yet, though he was such a great spiritual leader, it was not enough to remove God’s wrath for the nation’s sins.

Josiah begins to reign at age 8 and his whole reign is known for spiritual reformation. He pursued what mattered to God, and when he heard God’s word, he wept. Knowing the sin of his nation, he humbles himself before God which in turn leads God in delaying His judgment upon Judah. Who knows that great things God will do through a repentant soul?
