Advent brings us to the point where we are waiting to celebrate the birthday of our king Jesus. Emmanuel, the God who took on flesh and came to us over 2000 years ago as a baby boy born in a manger.

My prayer is that God will stir you up, God will stir our church up, God will stir things up in our nation, our communities and families to seek his grace, embrace his justice and receive his salvation.

No matter how dusty we are under the rubbles of life, how messy, how fragile, how broken, frightened and how lost we are like the boy in the story I started with, when he finds us, Like the shepherd in Luke 15, he picks us up from our misery, our grief, sorrow or pain.

‘Whose world is it anyway? The earth is our home. The earth is the Lord’s. The earth is on loan to us. Caring for earth is part of worship. Let’s resolve to put this into practice in our church, our homes, and our lifestyles - to care for God’s creation to his glory.’

The Queen, though, can’t wear it forever. Neither can she take crown with her. There’s an even more valuable crown awaiting her, and us too! It’s the imperishable crown that’s spoken of in our reading from Corinthians.

Whatever the grief, anxiety, or emptiness in our hearts, the Lord Almighty’s rule will never come to an end. He has promised to be with us always, to abide with us to be our light and our Salvation. Jesus is our ultimate hope. Alleluia
