Second Baptist Church

James doesn't just emphasize the importance of prayer; he mentions a specific situation in which prayer can be extraordinarily powerful.

Pastor Jim preaches on James 5:7-12 and discusses how patience reminds us that God is in control and we are not.

In this passage James rebukes those who trust in their wealth and oppress the poor.

Pastor Matthew teaches us the priority, power, and privilege of prayer.

Pastor Jim preaches on James 4:13-17 and examines how James points out the brevity of our life and the influence sin has in our world.

Pastor Jim preaches on James 4:11-12 and some instructions for believers about self-righteousness.

James talks to us about how to deal with conflict and get along with others. This is something we all need to learn. James gets to the root of our relationships and gives us instruction on how to honor God.

You begin to understand the value of wisdom when you look at our world and see our desperate need for wisdom. We need the “wisdom from above” that is far more valuable than anything this world has to offer. And that’s what James is talking about here.

One of the most important areas where our relationship with Christ should influence our behavior is when it comes to our speech. James mentions the “tongue” in every section of this short letter.

What we do reveals who we are. Real faith will always result in real obedience. If you have the root of genuine faith in your life then you will see the fruit of godly behavior.

God doesn’t play favorites. He loves each of us with a perfect, holy love. Sadly, churches and Christians will often play favorites. Did you know that God loves you with a perfect love? There’s nothing you can do to make God love you more; and there’s nothing you can do to make God love you less. If God loves us with a perfect and impartial love, then we should love others the same way.

James wants us to remember, genuine faith will always lead to godly behavior.

God tests us to strengthen us and build us up. The enemy tempts us to weaken us and tear us down.

James gives us some advice about how we’re supposed to respond to trials. God has a way of turning our troubles into triumphs.

We'll look at James 1:1-4 about how Christians should handle trials.

Because the tomb is still empty, our lives can be filled with life, hope, joy, peace, and purpose.

During this time of distancing from our fellow man, it could also feel like God seems distant. Have you ever felt that way before? Has God ever felt distant? It happened to David and he wrote about it in Psalm 22.

Today, we'll continue our Fearless series and look at Psalm 84:5-7 and what we can do while we're in the valley.

What does the Bible say about where we should turn and who can truly offer help in times of trouble? We'll look at Psalm 121 and answer those questions.

Today we will talk about how to love where we live, where we work, where we go, and where we are. This series will remind us of some of the most important things God has called our church to do.

Today we celebrate what God has done for us through Financial Peace University.

When you are troubled by the sins of the world and the wrath of God, look to Jesus, the One who brings peace and salvation by taking the wrath for you.

We need to continue to reach our neighbors and the nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Highlighted throughout this chapter are the righteous who choose to follow Christ and the rebellious who choose to embrace the world.

Do you and I have what it takes to stand with "the Lamb?"
