As he continues to farewell his disciples, Jesus warns of dark days ahead. Like the Psalmist, he says, “they will hate me without cause.” If you’re looking for a popular and easy leader to follow, maybe you should look elsewhere!

What’s the true mark of success in the Christian life? Eleven times in John passages, Jesus calls on his eleven remaining disciples to remain, or abide, in him. In other words, keeping on trusting Jesus until the end is the definition of Christian ‘success.’  We’re urged to do the same!

The road ahead looks difficult. But Jesus promises the Eleven that he will personally empower them for the days that are coming, as they prepare to take their part in the chain of faith that reaches even to us.  Let’s keep holding to the word of Jesus in the same way!

As Jesus rides into Jerusalem as King, the time for his glorification is approaching. But this will be a coronation like no other. As we watch the preparations for his death, we’re forced to ask what we’ll really value.
