Scenic Roots

CASA of Bradley and Polk Counties is a nonprofit based in Cleveland that trains volunteers for the local court system to speak for children who have suffered abuse and neglect. “CASA” stands for “Court-Appointed Special Advocates.”   Christopher Janetzko is the nonprofit’s executive director - and Lois and Gerald Crawford are two of its volunteers.  

(Urban League of Greater Chattanooga) The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga aims to empower African Americans and other underserved individuals to enter the mainstream. This year, the League created a new Center for Equity and Inclusive Leadership to transform how the community addresses its racial and economic disparities. Candy Johnson is the Urban League’s president.

(Hunter Museum) “Power, Passion & Pose” is a new photo exhibition at Chattanooga’s Hunter Museum. The images by Ken Browar and Deborah Ory feature ballet dancers, often in vintage or modern fashions, from around the world - with costumes alongside the photos.   This evening at 5 PM, Ken and Deborah will give an artists’ talk.

(Creative Arts Guild) Sarah Malone is a paint maker and artist who can tell you about the science and history of color. Next Thursday at 6 PM, she will give an Art and Wine talk at the Creative Arts Guild in Dalton - where she is an instructor.   I spoke with Sarah - and Amanda Brown, the Guild’s executive director.
