Save Your Spoon: Dose of Empowerment
Welcome to Save Your Spoon! As a speech-language pathologist and someone who is continually experiencing some type of health crisis, I put my love for neuroscience and spreading mindfulness together to help support individuals who have chronic conditions (MCAS, autoimmunity, CFS, and others) as well as neurodivergence (AuDHD). Life is too short to think about what is stopping us from living our best lives. This podcast is here to make you feel energized and happy to be alive even when your body and mind are telling you otherwise.

Prioritizing and maintaining mental health during the holiday season | boundaries, reframing, self-care 22.11.2023 34:04
Seasonal depression is a real thing! Not to mention grieving the holidays and feeling overwhelmed with societal expectations. In this episode, we talk about recognizing triggers, honoring our boundaries, reframing negative thoughts, and things we could do for self-care (not that everything I just mentioned isn't for self-care). Whether you identify as a highly sensitive person or not, the holi...
THE TRAUMA RESPONSES | The Four F's, What They Feel Like, & Ways to Help 15.11.2023 26:42
In my last couple of episodes, I talked about the fight-or-flight/autonomic nervous system as well as safe relationships healing trauma. In this episode, I discuss the "four F's," which are fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. I also highlight what we can do to help in the moment and long term, as well as the benefits of seeking therapy. A caveat: do not try to pathologize yourself, and...
What you might not know about healing trauma | finding safe relationships 09.11.2023 13:33
I recorded one episode, and then wanted to talk about this instead. So here we are! This week is a brief talk on how trauma is healed by safe relationships. Extending that window of tolerance and using appreciation of your current state can be just two of the tools someone can use. Safe relationships can be a friend, a partner, a parent, a therapist, a counselor. I hope you enjoy these shorter epi...
How to tackle and beat stress from a mindfulness and spiritual perspective 01.11.2023 19:32
This week's episode focuses on tools to combat stress and worry. Stress has been the catalyst for my flare-ups. Learning how to move through life by staying open, remaining curious, and letting life flow, has been fundamental in mediating my mental and physical health. I hope this episode serves you well! Part of it was inspired by the book "The Untethered Soul." It may sound hippy-d...
I drank for the first time in months and this is what happened 25.10.2023 21:14
This is a taboo conversation: the idea of being sober curious and living a life in your 20s free of alcohol. I recently posted on one of my platforms and found many women agreeing with my relationship with alcohol. I love making this content for you. I discuss why I chose to cut out alcohol in the first place, why I gave in again, and where I stand with my relationship currently. I hope you enjoy...

I want to preface that dysautonomic function impacts our autonomic nervous system- sometimes, these techniques may not be as effective! This is just what I have done to help me. In this episode, we cover the somatic nervous system, how it interacts with our bodily sensations, and what we can do to ground ourselves. I hope you enjoy it! How perfectionism and the need to be perfect kept me from growing 11.10.2023 35:19
This episode covers perfectionism: what it is, how it can come from our childhood, how it impacted my life, and the steps I took to overcome it. The desire for excellence can be healthy if channeled in a positive way. Perfectionism derives from anxiety or self-esteem issues. Overcoming perfectionism can improve your quality of life drastically (as it did for mine)! I hope you enjoy this episode! c...
Dysautonomia Awareness: How it altered my life and shifted my perspective 03.10.2023 17:02
I never knew what dysautonomia was until I experienced some debilitating symptoms. In honor of dysautonomia awareness month, I wanted to share my experience and how I've grown with it. My perspective has changed a lot from it, and I've learned to appreciate my body in a new light. It is not worth focusing on what I can't do or how things have changed. I would rather highlight what I ca...
The Locker Room Pep Talk You Needed: Discipline is Everything 27.09.2023 21:01
I took a different approach to this episode. There’s a little more tough love than in others. And it felt good. Discipline is a quality that speaks volumes. It shows what you value and how you carry yourself. Having this trait helps you tackle your goals. I am sorry if this hurts anyone’s emotions, but it may be the inspiration you need to jump-start your next chapter! Discipline!!!! Work!!!! Blo...
You Are Who You Surround Yourself With | Importance of Relationships and Tribes When Healing | Intrinsic Motivation 20.09.2023 33:36
Relationships and having a tribe have been fundamental to my healing. The people I surround myself with provide me with so much love, comfort, motivation, and inspiration. These can be partners, friends, family, and even therapists. You don't realize how much people have helped you until you look back on it. We also talk about intrinsic motivation at the beginning of the episode and how small...
Navigating Adulthood and Your Late 20s in the Eyes of a Retired Party Girl 13.09.2023 21:36
Welcome back! This week, we cover a few topics on adulthood. I discuss using "powerful thinking" over "positive thinking" when facing self-doubt or lack of motivation. I also cover how scary it could be transitioning into adulthood and navigating it as interests change. I talk about honing in on your values and using those to help align your daily activities and interests. Adul...
Reinventing Yourself | Living Glass Half Full 08.09.2023 10:14
This was a shorter episode following some reflection on my current situation. I find that focusing on issues only makes the rest of my outcomes worse. I talk about viewing things in a positive light and reinventing yourself in this short hype-up session. Hope you enjoy it! Millionaire Versus Victim Mindset | Hot Take on Medical Bills | Life with Chronic Symptoms 06.09.2023 36:16
This episode focuses on the millionaire versus victim mentality when dealing with chronic conditions and medical bills. This information was inspired by the book “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind,” where Eker digs into the subconscious mind. I am trying to rewire my brain and how I think about my situations. I hope this will continue to bring me closer to what’s meant for me. I know some aspects so...
Health Updates & Dealing with the Chronic Symptoms | Art of Being and Mindfulness Tips 30.08.2023 36:56
This episode covers health updates as well as dealing with chronic health conditions. It is difficult to grieve a diagnosis and come to accept it. It is difficult when you don’t get answers and have to continue to wonder what is happening. I try to transmute my pain and put that energy into creating. I also spent half the episode talking about the art of being and mindfulness tips I use to move p...
Distancing Yourself From Negative Thoughts | Self Compassion | Inner Child 23.08.2023 27:52
I am a huge sucker when it comes to neuroscience. Our primal brain has not caught up with technology and how our communication systems have shifted. An example is how our brain will see something as a threat when it could be as simple as someone leaving you on read. This “threat” can literally unlock our fight or flight system. And that’s just how our animal brain is still hardwired in us. We have...
Embodying my Best Self | My Role Models | Sober Curious | Making Healing Fun and Healthy 15.08.2023 36:45
A day early! I was too excited! Here is my episode for this week. I remembered how much I loved tweeting and just adding fun to my “healing” content. Thus, the holistic bimbo was created! I also talk about my journey of being sober curious. I mentioned what brought me to that point, how things have been, and where I see my relationship with alcohol going! Question from the pod: How would your...
Combatting Depression with Your Passion | Power of Now | Mindfulness and Emotion 09.08.2023 22:00
I discuss the book “The Power of Now” by Eckert Tolle. I found that a lot of my worries and pain stem from not being in the moment. In this episode, I talk about my own depression and how finding passions and projects help me cope with it. Focusing on where I am in this present moment has also been foundational when healing my physical and mental health. I find more love and peace than I have befo...
Introduction: Self-discovery, Discussing Mental Health and Autoimmune Disorders, Trial-and-Error with Content Creation 03.08.2023 28:39
Welcome to Save Your Spoon! This is the first episode where I dive into my autoimmune diagnosis and mental health journey. I discuss themes of self-discovery and acceptance. I found great salvation in the blog I started, saveyourspoon.com. I have read enough self-help books to have a degree in it. I want to combine my experience with some of the best ideas I have studied and integrated into my lif...
