Salt House Sermons

In Mark 3:7-19, Jesus is pursued by crowds of hurting, searching people. Then, from those who have begun to follow him, he sets apart twelve apostles—those who will carry his love into the world in a particular way. This Sunday, we’ll reflect on how God meets us and how we, too, are sent to embody hope and healing in a world still aching to belong.

This summer, we are walking through the first eight chapters of Mark. As we look to the good news reading for this Sunday, Mark 2:23-3:6, resistance from the Pharisees over violations of the religious law grows stronger. Particularly the Fifth Commandment of observing the Sabbath as a day of rest and worship. The disciples and Jesus appear unfazed. Which brings to mind a quote from priest/novelist...

When times are hard, when prayers go unanswered, when the suffering of our world seems too much, the story of Jesus dares us to trust that God is up to something new and surprising in our midst. Listen for a word of hope and possibility in these troubling times from Mark 2:18-22.

Continuing with the Gospel of Mark. This Sunday, Jesus calls Levi—a tax collector and outsider—to follow him without hesitation or conditions. In a world full of barriers and qualifiers, Jesus offers an open invitation. Come hear how the love of God sets the table for all, no prerequisites required.

This Sunday in our journey through Mark's gospel, where Jesus begins to call his first disciples. We see Jesus' heart for invitation and transformation beckon to his disciples, "Come, follow me," and we hear it for us today. Come and see, come and follow, come and be blessed this Sunday!

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.” These are the earliest recorded words of Jesus. But let’s be honest—they aren’t super clear. Yet in them is a promise from God that we really need to hear. Join us on Sunday as we continue exploring the Gospel of Mark and the good news Jesus promises here. 

We are underway with a brand new sermon series on the Gospel of Mark and let me tell you, it is action packed. The word "immediately" is used over 40 times in Mark! There must be something urgent about what the Gospel is telling us. Let's dig in together with Pastor Ryan this Sunday, because, as Mark would say, "Now is the time!"

Easter Sunday at Salt House! Christ is risen. Alleluia! God's love is revealed through Jesus's death and resurrection. This divine love invites us to "die" to our unloving ways; a surrender that paradoxically leads to true life. In the Christian life, we rely on prayer -- spending quality time with God -- as a vital communication with God. On this Palm Sunday, let's follow Jesus through his entrance to Jerusalem and the waving of palms to his prayer in the garden before going to the cross.

Perhaps the most enduring question of life is: How do we experience love? It’s in our music, poetry, and art, the pursuit of love, and love pursuing us. There is a popular notion of 5 Love Languages and we're using this lens as we focus on God's expressed love and our receptiveness and response. Join us this Lent for a season of learning God's Love Languages.
