After providing a miracle in the birth of Isaac, God asks the unthinkable of Abraham: sacrifice your one and only son. Abraham's response not only tells us something about the life of faith, it also spoke volumes about the future sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

When God calls Abraham, he calls him out of the familiar and into a covenant of love and trust with God. But what does the call of Abraham have to do with you and me? And how is Abraham's call to righteousness and justice applicable to followers of Jesus? 

As we reach chapter 12 of the Bible, we enter the third act of the biblical narrative. Having outlined creation and the fall, the Scriptures are now going to focus in on God's redemptive plan, which centers curiously around a single man who is willing to respond. 

In the aftermath of Adam and Eve's rebellion, we get a dismal picture of humanity as it descends into darkness. But what do chapters 3-11 tell us about the nature of the human problem? 

Chapter 2 ends with God, humanity, and creation all flourishing and in harmony. But as we enter chapter 3, the drama begins and tragedy strikes. What is the biblical significance of the chapter 3? Why should we care about a talking snake and his poisonous lie? And how does chapter 3 help us understand the nature of the human struggle and the enemy we still face?

When God creates Adam and Eve, he places them in the Garden of Eden to "work it and care for it." But what was the Garden of Eden? Why are "working it" and "caring for it" significant? And how are those things being balanced today?

The very first command given to humanity is to "be fruitful and multiply" - have sex, make babies, spread out and the fill the earth. But is this a standing command for all people for all time? When it comes to gender, there is tension and controversy inside and outside of the church. While the culture seems to make too little of gender, sometimes it feels as if the church has made too much of it. But what does Genesis say and how should it shape our thinking when it comes to gender?

Three stories of God's faithfulness.

Evolution sits at the epicenter of the tension between faith and science. But what do we mean by "evolution"? And what do we mean by "intelligent design"? How do we navigate the tension surrounding the origins of life in the universe? 

As human beings, we were made by God to represent him to the world and continue his creative work within it. But if we stop there we end up a stunted view of humanity. In all reality, not only were we made to work, but we were made to rest as well.
