Episode 427: Halo Effect 01.04.2022 1:15:28
Just when you thought Disney had cornered the market on flawed dudes in armor Paramount + serves up Halo, the first live action adaptation of the long running video game franchise. There's action, there's aliens, there's serious body count, but is there enough here to build an audience beyond the gamer purists, many of whom are already finding reasons to not like it? As Dave has recently rejoined...
Episode 426: USS Self Discovery 25.03.2022 1:22:46
You know that show, the one where people talk endlessly about their lives, relationships, childhood traumas, work stresses, and pretty much everything else? In the recent past you would assume we were discussing This is Us or something like that. Sadly, we are talking about season four of Star Trek: Discovery. Where everyone, including the ship's AI, either needs therapy, or get it whether they wa...
Episode 425: THE Batman 11.03.2022 1:05:27
The Batman is in theaters, which, if you are keeping score is the Gotham Knight's fifth big screen appearance, in three incarnations, in the span of ten years. Damn, they don't give this guy a rest. Anyway, before you really has a chance to miss him Batman is back. This time he's broody, moody, and . . . to use an already over-used adjective, DARK. Honestly, he kind of needs to be. This version of...
Episode 424: Disco Fever Lunchbox 04.03.2022 1:23:16
This week the other Regular Joes put their faith in Tod (always a questionable proposition) who promised to come up with a theme and tell them as they record. To make things more interesting he called up the full bench, Barry, Dave, Derryl and Brian. This week the theme is "Themes." how do movie and television songs and scores factor into our attachment to them? Can you have a great film without g...
Episode 423: Free Range Hosts 25.02.2022 1:07:52
Spared the burden of planning, theme, or actual forethought, the Regular Joes catch up on a number of things they weren't covering while talking about a certain Disney + series that, somewhat miraculously, is never even mentioned this time around. They catch up on various other things they have been watching, or in the case of Peacemaker, rapidly binging. They also dive into the currently wrapping...
Episode 422: Helmet Service 18.02.2022 1:19:51
The Book of Boba Fett has finished. And, like many recent additions to the Star Wars franchise, fans and critics are mixed. Like the public at large the Regular Regular Joes, plus Irregular Joes Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix, run the gamut of opinions. The title character has thrived for decades on mystique, reputation and expectations. Can it really be a surprise that dragging him out into the gl...
Episode 421: Boys and Their Hot Toys 11.02.2022 1:30:22
If you are tired of all the talk about The Book of Boba Fett in this episode the Regular Joes devote some time to talking Hot Toys. The Hong Kong based maker of premium one 1/6 scale action figures has put a significant dent in the wallets, as well as the shelf space, of the Joes. The hosts run down their, often extensive, list of preorders as well as note several other yet to be green lit figures...
Episode 420: Now With 100% More Mando! 04.02.2022 1:20:37
In recent weeks the Regular Joes have spent a fair amount of time talking about The Book of Boba Fett. Yeah, well that's still a thing. Facing criticisms such as, "He talks too much," "He doesn't really do anything," and "This is not the Boba Fett we knew," etc. Disney responds by giving viewers an episode in which the one time favorite guy in Mandalorian Armor is straight up replaced by the curre...
Episode 419: Extempormania 28.01.2022 1:30:39
Do you know those episodes where the Regular Joe's make lists and spreadsheets and plan the heck out of everything they do? This is not one of those episodes. As Barry, Dave and Tod like to do from time to time (when they don't really have another plan) this week they just turned on the microphones and recorded whatever came to mind. At times it's like one long Random Topics segment. At others the...
Episode 418: Boba Fett 21.01.2022 1:08:11
This week the Regular Joes open the cover on The Book of Boba Fett. Seriously Disney, this should be a slam Dunk (a sports ball term for something easy). Whether you are one of the legions of fans who think Boba Fett is the end all be all of Star Wars characters, or you think Boba Fett deserved to get accidentally knocked into a Sarlac pit where he (seemingly) died like a bitch, you had to at leas...
Episode 417: Hindsight is 2021 14.01.2022 2:15:57
While Tod is sometimes wrong in his speculations he is seldom as off the mark as when he predicted the Regular Joes 2021 Year End Review would "go quickly." Thus, with the regular hosts and Irregular Joes Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix joining in, the whole team takes a look back at the highs and lows of the year that was. They all like a lot of the same stuff, right? This should be easy, right? We...
Episode 416: Holidays & Hawkeyes 07.01.2022 1:06:06
As we start 2022 with a clean slate and high hopes for a better times ahead, this week we relive the joys of the holiday season with the Regular Joes annual holiday gift exchange. The Joes are notoriously some of the most difficult people to buy gifts for, so listen in as they tear gift wrap and rustle tissue paper as they try to surprise each other. After the gift giving, they discuss the season...
Episode 415: With Great Power . . . 24.12.2021 1:28:49
Spider-Man No Way Home, the fourth, and most anticipated of the Marvel Cinematic Universe offerings this year is out and … just, Wow! Despite COVID concerns, and the widely predicted demise of the theater industry, the newest Spidey film is breaking box office records. It also seems to be a critical success, winning over both audiences and reviewers. So I guess that is still possible too. With ant...
Episode 414: Who You Gonna Call? 10.12.2021 1:02:39
Ghostbusters is high up on the Regular Joes list of favorite films. From the very first teaser for Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters Afterlife the Joes have been waiting with varying degrees of optimism about what would ultimately be delivered. After, again, COVID related delays, the film is finally here. To cut to the chase, critics hate it, the Joes love it, and if Ghostbusters holds a special place...
Episode 413: Marvel Two In One 03.12.2021 1:22:35
This past week Disney+ launched their fourth live action Marvel Cinematic Universe based show. WandaVision was very good but uneven, Falcon and the Winter Soldier was kind of a meandering, missed opportunity and Loki seemed to be going somewhere . . . but then didn't. So, does Hawkeye finally hit the target? The answer is a clear maybe, sort of, we'll see. Two episodes in opinions are mixed. There...
Episode 412: Eternal Damnation 19.11.2021 1:20:07
Once you've done something twenty-five times getting it right should be pretty much a walk in the park. The Eternals, the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe offering may indicate otherwise. Over the last dozen years Marvel has gone back to the well several times to pull relatively obscure characters such as Ant-Man and The Guardians of the Galaxy to elevate them to high profile hits. As one of the l...
Episode 411: RICC 2021 - Apollo Greed 12.11.2021 59:26
While there are very few certainties in life, it's pretty darn likely that if there's a Rhode Island Comic Con the Regular Joes will be there. It's also a given that as long as there's a sofa in the Omni Providence lobby the Joes will be making yet another run at their traditional guerrilla talk show. Some years they find many guests, in others it just ends up being a small group of good friends t...
Episode 410: Coming Soon . . . ish 05.11.2021 1:14:09
The Regular Joes take time out from packing for their (mostly) annual pilgrimage to the Rhode Island Comic Con to check out the recent bumper crop of Trailers and Teasers for, The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+, The Beatles: Get Back on Apple +, House of the Dragon coming to HBO, Sandman and Ozark season 3 on Netflix, and over on Amazon Prime, there's The Wheel of Time and The Witcher season 2. And,...
Episode 409: Sand Trap: Dune (2021) 29.10.2021 1:14:44
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune (2021) is the third effort to adapt Frank Herbert's landmark 1965 novel. After the first cinematic attempt 1984 (too compressed) and a later mini-series 2000 (faithful but slow) failed to do justice to the source material a different approach was needed. Is it possible to spoil a 55 year old story? Let's just say the execution this time around was clearly ambitio...
Episode 408: James Bond Will Return 22.10.2021 1:15:17
After nearly 60 years and 25 (official) movies it's safe to say James Bond films have developed certain expectations. You have a disfigured bad guy with a vague accent, an island base, lots of henchmen, and a global threat. Add in some fast cars, the prerequisite beautiful women, and you start to get the idea that No Time to Die, Daniel Craig's final (he really means it this time) turn as James Bo...
Episode 407: Y The last Ghosts...In LaBrea? 15.10.2021 1:27:43
This week, the Regular Joes take on 3 new series to see if they are worth the effort...Hulu's Y The Last Man, NBC's LaBrea and CBS's Ghosts. Are they welcomed additions to the fall TV line up or destined to be forgotten at the bottom of a California tourist attraction / tar pit? Dave, Barry and Tod let you know what they think, you can let us know what you think. The boys also run down the lengthy...
Episode 406: Going Sulu 08.10.2021 1:28:27
Fans of Isaac Asimov have been waiting decades for an adaptation of his groundbreaking sci-fi series Foundation. Many have said it's unfilmable. It certainly is dense and a challenging narrative to translate to the screen. This week the Regular hosts, plus Irregular Joe Brian Mix, take a look at the first episode of Apple's lavish and ambitious effort to bring the millennium spanning tale to the m...
Episode 405: Cruella, Silvio and Andy 01.10.2021 1:09:44
DC's Titans is back for a third season, and now on HBO Max. Which is a big step up from living exclusively on a niche streaming service that no one knew how to find. It's also freakin awesome. And, frankly the Joe's would've talked about it sooner if Barry had caught up with the episodes. If you haven't watched there will be at least minor SPOILERS. As previously mentioned the Regular Joe's got su...
Episode 404: Fall TV, TV Falls 24.09.2021 1:12:32
Remember when we would eagerly review the new fall TV offerings, excited for a glimpse of what might be a new favorite show. Those years seem far behind us now ... at least two years behind us. This week the Regular Joe's rundown the decidedly thin offerings for fall TV. There are a few hopefuls including Apple's Foundation adaptation, Hulu's Y the Last Man, La Brea on NBC, and Ghosts from CBS. Th...
Episode 403: Dubious, Indifferent or Barry 17.09.2021 1:05:38
After what seems like a long drought of TV shows and Movies to get excited for, several trailers and teasers have dropped giving even the most cynical of us (Dave) cause for hope. First up there's Star Trek, lots and lots of Star Trek. The franchise that CBS (now Paramount+) built their streaming platform on the back of is back with more iterations than most of us ever imagined. Lower Decks contin...
