In this sermon we move into the famous chapter 13 of Romans. Paul call the Christians to be in subjection to ruling authorities, because these authorities are in place by God. What does this mean? In this sermon we consider what this cannot mean, in light of God’s word and what it does mean.

As followers of Jesus we will encounter suffering and evil. The question is, how does God want us to respond to such attacks? And how are we to overcome the presence of evil in the world? Paul carefully shows us the way forward, and it is not through the use of greater evil, but through good and with the knowledge that vengeance belongs to God alone

In this sermon we look further into what genuine Christian love looks like. Paul calls Christians, in view of Godʼs mercy, to offer up our lives as living sacrifices. He also calls us to be transformed through the renewal of our minds. In light of this overarching command, we are to be renewed in our thinking about love and what it truly is.

God cares deeply for the church, since it is the body of Christ the Son. We too should think carefully about our own place in Christ’s church. We should affirm the equal standing we share in Christ as well as the diverse parts which make up the body. Furthermore, Paul emphasizes the importance of each member exercising their gifts to the good of the body and to the glory of God.
