In a world as unsettling as this. When we realize our lives are not in our own hands. And that we are subject to all the vagaries and miseries of this life. What can settle our hearts? I. What should characterize a ministry that ministers on behalf of Jesus? I. It suffers the afflictions of Christ, v24. II. It serves the household of Christ, v25. III. It proclaims the mystery of Christ, vv26-27. IV. It seeks our maturity in Christ, vv28. V. It struggles by the power of Christ, v29.

Christians don't need anything beyond Jesus, we just need to keep believing in Jesus. So Paul reminds us of: I. What we once were, v21. II. What we now are, v22a. III. What we will be, v22b. IV. So then, how we must continue, v23

Our Maker is our Savior and our Savior is our Maker. He who knows us best because he made us, is best able to diagnose what's wrong with us, and best able to prescribe the remedy that restores us to himself and life as he intended. His remedy is Jesus. I. He's more than you think, v18. II. He's head of the church, v18a. III. He's firstborn from the dead, v18b. IV. He reconciles...

Who is Jesus? I. The image of the invisible God, v15a. II. The firstborn over all creation, v15b. III. The creator of all things, v16. IV. The pre-existent one who is before all things, v17a. V. The sustainer in whom all things hold together, v17b. 

Paul throws fuel on the fire of thanksgiving by reminding believers what God the Father did for us. I. The Father Qualified Us, v12. II. The Father Rescued and Transferred Us, v13. III. The Father Redeemed and Forgave Us through the Son of his love, v14. 

Isn't there much weakness in our prayers? How can we pray more effectively? I. The petition he makes, v9. II. The priority he seeks, v10a. III. The production he anticipates, v10b-12. 

What does Paul thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for and what should we? I. Thank God for the manifestations of God’s gifts, vv3-4. II. Thank God for the motivation of heavenly hope, v5. III. Thank God for the multiplication of gospel truth, vv5-6. IV. Thank God for the ministers of Christ’s grace, vv7-8.

Why bother listening to Paul? I. Because of what God made him, v1. II. Because of what Paul says God made you Christians, v2a. III. Because of what Paul wants God to give to you, v2b. 

Jesus says, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock." I. We have only two options: to be wise or to be foolish. II. The wise person builds his life on hearing Jesus, and doing what he says, vv24-25. III. By contrast, the foolish person hears Jesus but does not do what he says, v26-27.

I. God's favor toward Ruth, vv1-3. II. God's servant's favor toward Ruth, vv4-16. III. Naomi and Ruth's awe at being favored, vv17-23. 

Ruth 1 is the story of famine, exile, and bereavement in the life of Naomi, who becomes an Israelite widow living in Moab. And it's the story of God's covenant love and loyalty. I. God tests our faith by hardship, vv1-5. II. God sustains the faith of his people through hardship, vv6-14. III. God grants faith to the unlikely, vv15-18. IV. God supports our faith unseen, vv19-22.
