I. Christians are commanded to submit ourselves to governing authorities, v13. II. Why? 1) Because of the Lord Jesus, v13. 2) Because of the purpose of government, v14. 3) Because of our witness to unbelievers, v15. 4) Because our freedom is spiritual not political, v16. III. Summary: putting government in its place, v17. 

Peter tells the church how to engage the world. I. Remember the community where you are dearly loved, v11a. II. Fight yourself, not non-Christians, v11b. III. Be neighborly, v12a. IV. Don’t be surprised by false accusations, v12b. V. Keep the end in mind, v12c

What is the church and what's it for? I. Who’s he describing? II. What’s our status? III. What’s our purpose? IV. How did we get this?

God makes Christians who we are, because of who Christ is. I.  We are to come to Jesus, and to keep coming to Jesus, v4 II.  Christians keep coming to Jesus who is the living stone, v4 III. Christians are living stones in God’s house, in union with Jesus, v5 IV. Christians are being made into a holy priesthood,  v5 V. Christians can come to God through Jesus with confidence, vv6-7 VI. I. Love one another earnestly because you have begun to love one another sincerely, v22. II. Love one another earnestly because the seed of the God of love lives in you, vv23-25 III. Peter fixes his eyes on Christ's suffering and subsequent glories, and invites us to join him and these others:  I. The prophets who prophesied and inquired about Christ, v10. The Holy Spirit who predicted Christ, v11. III. The earliest preachers who announced Christ, v12. IV. The angels who long to look into the things of Christ, v12b

Peter speaks of our afflictions in light of our assurances, so faith can rejoice even as we grieve. I. An assured faith rejoices, v6a. II. And assured faith rejoices and grieves, sometimes simultaneously, v6. III. Faith is proved genuine and is purified by trials, vv6-7. IV. Faith loves the unseen Savior, vv8-9

 I. We bless God for the new life he’s given us in our living hope, v3. II. We bless God because our hope is an inheritance kept by God for us, v4. III. We bless God because His power keeps us to the very end, v5.

I. Who is Peter? v1a. II. Who are his hearers in relationship to the world? v1b. III. Who are they in relationship to God? v2

Jesus says, "whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

I. Jesus says it will be painful not merely peaceful to follow him, vv34-36. II. Jesus says you must love him above everyone else, v37. III. Jesus says you’re going to have to die if you really want to live, vv38-39

I.  Christians should not fear people, for the truth will come out, vv26-27. II. We should fear God instead, because he’s bigger than any person, v28.  III. Christians shouldn’t fear, because we are valued by God, vv29-31. IV. Therefore Christians facing hostility should publicly profess faith in Jesus, vv32-33.

Jesus says, "Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves..." I. Be wise and innocent, v16. II. Beware of men, vv17-18, 21-22a. III. Do not be anxious, vv19-20. IV. Be stubborn, v22b. V. Be cautious, v23. VI. Be encouraged, vv24-25. 

Jesus chooses the Twelve. God knows their names and wants us to know them too.  I. Their mission, vv1-2. The men, vv2-4. 

Worn out, without an end in sight. Is that you? Harassed and helpless? Distressed and downcast? Flayed open and cast off? Jesus sees you and is moved with compassion. He is the shepherd you need. I.
